Yeh agree but I think the first offence of a touch judge running onto the field and punching a woman are some fairly serious mitigating circumstances. If something like that happened in front of you, wouldn’t you intervene?

The touch judge will receive a life ban from all club rugby most likely and I’m sure the GPS supporter will cop something as well.

Regarding the previous home game, I know the club removed all players bar privileges for the remainder of the season as a general warning to the playing group to pull their heads in.

Good work Jeeps and if that report about the touchy is true it’ll be a police matter I’d suggest!!!

Yep heard this morning police actually got involved on Saturday night. The charges involve racial abuse towards a GPS woman by both the male touch judge (who plays in Brothers 4th grade) and another Brothers player, followed by assault. GPS spectators coming onto the field have been cleared on instigating anything but will still serve a lesser punishment as per the regulations of spectators entering the field of play.

That is a first hand account from a Brothers official so it's not looking good for them.

McReight outplayed by Giquel big time, Wallaby??

I thought at the breakdown and in defense Giquel was outstanding (he always is) but McReight overshadowed him in attack. He had a couple of great runs, one of which resulted in a filth try.

It was a bit curious the number of penalties given against brothers within 15m of the line and no sin bin. I think I counted about 11 in the first half and that was before the jeeps scrum took control and won penalty after penalty in the second.

Freddy Burke deserves a call out. Against Norths he dismantled Zander and he did the same yesterday against Hoopert. Looking forward to Fred's clash with Fotuaika later in the season to see if he can dominate all 3 Reds loose heads.

Agree with your point regarding McReight in attack, I actually think at club level McReight is one of the best attacking forwards in the game, his link player and running lines are epic. Needs to add that string to his bow at Super level.

Hoopert hasn't come back the same player he was in early 2020. He's been minced this year by club level packs. GPS bringing on a fresh front row of Felemi, Mafi and Burke with 30mins to go will be a great advantage going forward. They need to make sure they convert that scrum pressure into constant points though. Once again I think the backline looked a bit limp compared to what the forwards were doing.

I think you are correct on the backline. It has been a bit insipid all year. The word is that Tuttle is coming back to play club footy once his Rebels commitments are over and we should get Hegarty back as well as long as he is not contracted elsewhere.

Wests getting Henry, Daugunu and Droasese will make their backline pretty exciting and they will be a force to be reckoned with but can they beat Uni after the drubbing they took on the weekend? Granted they had to deal with Brett Cronin who usually only (inconsistently) referees one side, but its a long way back from a 40 odd point deficit.

Wow can you GPS supporters take your hand off it and get a room - Brothers were still in it for most of the game and the number 6 is only 18 and kept up the entire game. Either way UQ are going to hold the cup in the end

You don’t think Daugunu is going to make the wallabies?

I would say he is one of the form wingers in Oz. Tim Horan always frothing over his efforts in super rugby.

Can anyone confirm if Josh Collins got given the blue card on the weekend? He didn't look good in the first moments after the ref stopped the game. I didn't see the blue card being shown though but the camera may have moved away.

I agree, its just Tom Wright has been playing well, Koroibete will probably get another chance, if they are paying Vunivalu $900K a season then they are probably obliged to have him there somewhere and if Petaia is fit then he is probably ahead in the pecking order.

Daugunu is certainly exciting but he tends to take one step too many and he seems to push the pass a little too often. That culd count against him.

Tipping table after round 9.

A few of us managed 3/4, my best result since round 3. The 9.5 margin in the GPS v Brothers game made it interesting.

Think the players you get back could have a massive bearing on who gets the chocolates at the end of the season.

Could be another case of what UQ did in 2019, just scrape into finals , get their Reds’ players back , then proceed to take out the premiership.

Add in Henry, Droasese, Serovi and maybe even Carter Gordon back from the Rebels and you have a very different looking Wests team to what got demolished on the weekend.

Brothers will most likely get Stewart, Ryan Smith and Flook back.

Bond to get Nonggorr and Blyth.

UQ will probably get Campbell and possibly ASY (Angus Scott-Young) back on top of the Reds’ players we’ve already seen this year. Think Tate would be the only likely Wallaby squad member from UQ.

On their day , think any of the current top 5 teams could beat any of the others , particularly with the inclusion of their Reds’ players.

UQ well out in front at the moment , but the other teams could have a very different look come late August.

I did not see the game but GPS bringing on a fresh front row with 30 minutes to play ?

Can someone please confirm that they contested the scrum in Reggies

Yep contested scrums all the way down the grades.

There are a few blokes playing out of position in the lower grades to ensure they can field a contested scrum and not lose competition points. I think you'll find they may amend the rules next year, I know GPS aren't the only club who have raised safety concerns over players in 5th grade having to pack at prop when they aren't suited to it.

Making contested scrums from 4th grade up compulsory I think would alleviate lots of the headaches.

How can a club complain about safety concerns of front rowers in lower grades and at the same time have fresh subs for Prem Grade?

Woo up mate. The skill level of the blokes sitting on the bench for Prem Grade and the guys playing 5th grade are quite different. Regardless, GPS are still finding the cattle they need, my point wasn't so much a complaint as it was raising a possible change for next year, which has been brought up by several clubs already.

And I think you'll find with the new rules brought in this year, most clubs are carrying at least one fresh prop on the bench for Premier Grade, sometimes even reggies. Brothers had fresh forwards on the bench for 1sts, 2nds and 3rds. It's not uncommon.

Lion's talking about the "trickle down effect" as the fresh front row would play some time in Reggies.
BTW, Your statement's pretty ridiculous. Why not take to the Nth degree and have a full fresh bench for all grades and get rid of 5th grade altogether.

Some clubs would probably prefer to do that.

Footage of the Brothers touch judge incident has made its way to the Courier Mail and will be on the news tonight. Criminal charges also confirmed.

Watched the video, seems like the incident was instigated by the gps player walking (and looks to be saying something) towards the touchie while he checked on the injured player. Imo looked like a push but mainstream media's gonna try to exaggerate the situation and reported it as grabbing around the neck. Don't think he'll get convicted, Matt Kaye will probably sacrifice him for the public relations of the club by giving him a ban.

Mate I don’t think you can sugar coat it.

You’ve got a grown man acting in an official capacity become an aggressor towards women on the field. The man is also ex military, that will factor into it as he’s got capacity to severely injure those women when he shouldnt even be there in the first place.

Also if the allegations of racial abuse are true, which is what Brothers officials have told me, the GPS player was asking the downed Brothers player to repeat herself over what she said to the touch judge.

Anything less than a life ban for this incident would be ridiculous.

I also hope Brothers don’t just act due to the public perception, the ‘family club’ should see this as a very serious incident.
