From today's smh, the NSW Waratahs:

* are undergoing a major review following a 13 straight loss season, the worst in Australian professional rugby history.

* held back $800k under the salary cap, sacked coach Penney insists.

* NSW quietly reported a profit of $3,022,901 in 2020, and has more than $6.4 million in the bank. The result was not announced by NSW Rugby

Shenanigans are going on here while employees were made to take pay cuts and others laid off.

Really? We needed this thread in addition to the existing Waratahs threads?
Pretty rank, really.

Do we need to implicate.................... Cyclo in this cover up? Time to bring him into AC-12 for an interview. Maybe Braveheart too.

"6 million quid. Michael Hooper didn't cost that much you know Mr Braveheart. If, in fact, that is even your real name....."

For me, rightly or wrongly, fact or fiction, the mere fact that even if its just coincide, the-oh-so-rich irony that it was Roger Davis at the helm' after all these years of his hand in the "NSW first" rugby agenda, a proud foundation member of the old school and Shute Shield old' boys, NRC detractor; its just gold. NSWRU asked for him, wanted him, and he delivered.

It been 20+yrs of this this, extremely limited Warratahs success, NSW rugby slowly declining, beneficial things like the NRC compromised by NSW.....the list goes on.

Will NSWRU ever learn? Nope.

NSW Rugby got what they asked for. Its sad, it not only hurts NSW but the game nationally. But the preinstalled NSWRU blinkers that you get with your membership limits vison to a few suburbs! Its all roses and upwards. We have cash in the bank to fund more folly.

I’m interested to know more about the $3.8million government grant, even if COVID is included in that it’s still a large figure. QRU for instance reported COVID stimulus at $1.9million, and any grants for facility upgrades aren’t supposed to be included in the operating budget

Out of interest, the revenue & profit/loss of the traditional 3 unions. You have to request VRU's annual report off them, and the Western Force dont publish one since they're privately owned.

Sorry, I didn't think you were a member of "the" club. ;)

If you are, two quick questions; WTF is the $$$ and why are slumming here in GAGR-land with the rusted on?

Say hi to Rodger BTW. ;)

Rumours brewing that Shute has found some mystery funding source and will be going fully pro!

[just want to get in first to call dib's on some braking news] ;):D

Would be just like league in the 70s. Most of the better players from other places would go to Sydney for the cash. At least with that scenario the Brisbane league comp was also pro, just not as well funded. Interesting to see what happens if that eventuates. But not sure if it’s good for the game nationally.
