QLD Colts 2021

LOL! I have to say as an outsider looking in at our west side clubs, I have had many questions around the environments/levels of coaching. I couldn't see Mick Heenan or Carl Marshall being overly happy with their potentially future 1st grade players development this year?

I don’t know them but I doubt they would care too much. UQ Prems obviously have a commitment to Mac Grealy and Kalani Thomas (and fair enough) and to a lesser extent (seemingly) Lukas Ripley in the backs. They have given little spot cameos to a few other Colts backs and I don’t reckon any of these guys will be back. Tom Lynagh is probably here next season and will no doubt be of interest but outside of that it’s hard to see anyone they would see as a 5 to 6 season (minimum)staple in their back line.

In the forwards ….they are already stacked through the back row with Morrey and Wallis and Will Roche (still Colts eligible this season) and of course ASY (Angus Scott-Young) when not on Reds duty. There probably wasn’t a lot of commanding / must have development in Colts back row this year ……probably the most significant interest was the emergence of where did they come from types in Will Bradley and Jonathan Burnett , even James Caton who had some big games and captured attention in 3’s then 2’s

You then also have the Van Der Schyff brothers who hopefully will be a big part of a mainstay and add a lot of quality and depth to lock and 6/8 stocks. Probably one of the biggest stories of the season in the forwards was Will Robinson who has a lot of upside and promise as a developing lock / 6 man.

Hay and Swane are still raw upfront and will benefit from another year in Colts and then Lachie Pheely and Jake Tierney have already had spot opportunities upstream and will add further depth upfront.

So I don’t think there has been any loss or OMG at UQ which is why they were likely resigned to letting it play out with the notion it doesn’t affect them now or down the road upstream.

Insofar as the Wests Rebels are concerned …..they are buffeted by such things in being a farm placement destination for the Melbourne Bulldogs. I am not sure it would bother anyone upstream if there was some pooch screw down stream

Ruck n Maul think your bit unfair on the Wests coaching staff.

Go check the ladder mate and see how close of a comp it was. 6 teams were all in the hunt in the last 2 rounds.

One of the most dominant locks in Colts: Tane Riori
One of the most influential 10s in Colts & Rebels contracted: Mason Gordon
One of the most influential backs in colts & Rebels contracted: David Vaihu
A 10/15 who played 1st grade in Wellington as an 18 year old: Jake Sargood

At Colts level I'd say that's a fair foundation to be playing finals football, regardless of how close the competition is.

I think if Mason was available through the season instead of 1 or 2 games (if that) it would be a different story.

Other teams have been happy with your set piece also,6 or 7 top players who were not there last year and throwing a few thousand bucks at them make the coaches job much easier also.

Whoever you are, you seem to be quite bitter about something? Unsure as to why you indicate you support GPS and then throw comments around like that? The 6 or 7 players that are new to the GPS Colts program this year could of been there last year but obviously did want to for whatever reason, ie two of them played for Brothers instead of GPS. Your other claim is unsubstantiated, so rather than coming on a forum to talk down the club you say you support, can I suggest you either get behind what has been a tremendous effort from all involved with the colts program this year from coaches to players and managers or take your bitter attitude to yet another club!

In response to the impact of restrictions for lockdown areas of South-East Queensland on the Queensland Premier Rugby (QPR) competitions, the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) has decided how the remaining 2021 season will proceed and conclude.

In consultation with Queensland Rugby stakeholders, including the nine Premier Rugby Clubs, the QRU Board approved the decision for the 2021 QPR regular season to be concluded for an immediate Finals Series at the earliest convenience to maintain the current Grand Final schedule at Suncorp Stadium.

Throughout the process the principles of a fair and equitable decision, consideration of player welfare, consistency and certainty and consideration of the constraints and no extension of the season unnecessarily were adopted.

This decision entails the following outcome for each grade:

First Grade, Second Grade and Women: Rounds 17 and 18 are cancelled and the competition points for Rounds 17 and 18 are allocated as per the procedure for a cancelled fixture. (points are split between teams)

Colts 1: Round 18 is cancelled and the competition points for Round 18 are allocated as per the procedure for a cancelled fixture. The outstanding Round 17 fixture between Bond University and Brothers will be regarded as a cancelled fixture with competition points allocated as per the procedure for a cancelled fixture.

Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, Colts 2 and Colts 3: Round 18 is cancelled and the competition points are allocated as per the procedure for a cancelled fixture.

Pending the lifting of the restrictions for lockdown areas of South-East Queensland on the Queensland Premier Rugby competitions, the finals will proceed as follows:

- Lockdown is lifted on Sunday 8th August 2021 – the finals will proceed as currently planned and published.

- Lockdown is lifted on Sunday 15th August 2021 – the preliminary finals will be removed with the semi-finals restructured to a 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 elimination finals. The Grand Final will proceed as currently scheduled at Suncorp Stadium.

- If the lockdown is extended beyond Sunday 15th August 2021 – the QRU will consider the status and options for all QPR competitions.

Lol , welcome to Green and Gold ..whoever u r..Don’t worry, it gets easier the longer u are on here to hear the truth .I am not the only one to say scrums and lineouts have been shit!!. I said the head coach seems to have them going well. Perhaps u would like me to post some “ unsubstantiated figures “ of what the boys were told they would get , funny as, you couldn’t even bring yourself to say what u we’re talking about!.Point is, whe would u pay them thousands of dollars if they were coming back anyway, not as if they are underprivileged teens, paying sign on fees for all would have been better perhaps

Mate, not sure what you are trying to achieve here or what your agenda is with the mud slinging but it is quite strange, if you were genuinely a GPS supporter as you say you are then you would know that everyone is very happy with the current situation, as you should be, the culture is fantastic in that colts group and the club is very happy with the improvement made, yes even in set piece, from where it was in 2020 which was a debacle. You are either someone from another club trolling or a disgruntled former "coach" that is put out because of the groups success this year and if that is the case, I feel sorry for you

Have spoken to a lot of the parents this year of the boys and they are reporting back that the players are loving their rugby which is what colts is all about! As for the bursary's the club offered to a very limited handful of players, my understanding is that this assists certain players with apprenticeships/study, you seem to think you have such inside knowledge but anyway your entitled to your opinion. Looking forward to some quality players graduating to grades from this group.

Looking back, the worst thing I said was that the head coach needed help with the scrums, which was enough for you to create a avatar and rant on!!, the money thing was just a side distraction as I feel throwing thousands of dollars to teenagers leads to entitlement! Not loyalty. U really need to take a chill pill, although I heard u have a history of not handling criticism well.LOL

Haha ok I will tap out here, this is going nowhere, not sure who you think I am but you have got it very wrong! Not trying to make personal but My point is only that I am confused as to why you say are a GPS supporter but have carried on this way. You appear to have gotten yourself a little worked up so maybe go down and have a chat to the club about the issues you have with the program and how it’s run because you seem to think you know a lot about it? I am a long time supporter of the club and am happy that the colts hve made the major semi, simple as that but if you choose to pick it apart and look to Criticise and make comments about things it feels you know little about then that’s completely your choice. All the best!

Jeeps Colts were eventually going to come good given the successful production line from the local college. I think they won 4 AIC premierships from 2017, with the best teams in 2019 & 20, so the talent is now showing through. Not sure what is happening at Colts 2 level.

Given the possible lockdown scenarios, I wonder who GPS Colts 1 would rather play for a place in the GF - Easts or Brothers?

Yes, it looks like the talent is shallow but there is a lot of good players running around in colts 2

To be fair, Jeeps set piece has been pretty good throughout the season. I think they may have been missing Big Pete last Saturday which sent Downes to 3 and Hammond to sub in at 1. Hammond can be a mis match given his unusual height for a 1 which can work for or against - last weekend against Noa Zuna it was against. No shame in that given I think Zuna might have the biggest athletic upside of any Prop , and especially any THP , playing Colts football. Yes, even moreso than the celebrated Josh Mongard.

I’m not sure this guy or Coaches past and present understand how good he could be if he knuckles down and applies himself. As a raw power athlete ….big upside.

Jeeps were also missing the underrated Ethan Lucey at starting lock last weekend too. So when they were missing 2 x quality members of their scrum and ran into Noa Zuna it’s probably a fair enough excuse why they struggled a bit last weekend.

Fair enough - but I think you (and
perhaps a lot of others) are sleeping on Jeeps.

I don’t think they will be top tier but I reckon they can be there in the final 4
Looks like even I underestimated them a little bit. Toward the end of the first round they proved they do indeed deserve top tier status.

They faced their first real moment of truth against Brothers yesterday and passed with flying colours. The scrum was superb and despite Brothers rolling out a “star” cast in replacements upfront they didn’t really fire a shot against the Jeeps scrum. Lineout is still a little scratchy however - which is about the only thing “money” in Easts game.

Brothers had the usual huff n puff - but mostly puff down the stretch. To be honest, their starting scrum was ass and their mid field was middling and never really threatened in the same way that Jeeps did with the continual threat of Aubrey injecting himself into the mix with the ever dangerous Moller and Barker out wide.

It would be remiss not to give a shout out to Brothers 9 , Louis Werchon who is a genuine talent and kept his team relevant for 80% of the contest.

I am expecting Jeeps to do Easts comfortably in the GF - just superior all over the park (with the exception of line out) but most importantly they play a fantastic brand of Rugby where they run together and keep the ball alive with quality support play and decision making.

I’m going the early crow and calling congrats to Jeeps on their Colts 1 Premiership by 10 points plus

Hmmm, u also said Bond would beat Jeeps!, how good is Jeeps backline! Even with Harry not playing his preferred wing!.if Gary runs the line with his magic sponge they can’t lose.
