Wallabies 2023

Interesting article here - Nelson Afosa-Solomona set to sign with the Wild Knights in 2023. In the meantime, he can’t play in the NRL unless he’s vaccinated soon. The article mentions RA might try and sign him for 2022 if he’s released by the Storm on the vaccination grounds. Not sure if an actual source involved here or just speculation.

The most interesting part of the article, however, for me, is the mention that the Wild Knights offered to pay the Reds out the contact of Taniela Tupou to sign him immediately. Was this known prior? TT would have to be one of top 5 highest paid Wallabies, so the fact they’ve got that coin to throw away, and then sign him to another presumably much richer deal, is both amazing and concerning, if true.

Stupid part about that article is that he wouldn't be able to play for a Super Rugby for the same reasons he cant play for a NRL side, that is different states require players in attendance at stadiums to be vaccinated

Yeh I thought that as well, I think they got caught up on the fact that Super Rugby, as of now, isn’t vax mandated like the NRL. So technically he could sign with a team, but playing status wouldn’t be a given.

Just can’t play in Melbourne. Geez he would be handy to sign up pre rwc. He could turn out for nz or Samoa. He’s next move might be on the sbw fight card.

To be fair that’s the same boat as the NRL is in. As there is still no firm mandate Jason Taumalolo is another one who is holding out

Can't play in Queensland either, as far as I'm aware. You'd assume WA will be the same, and I can't see New Zealand letting unvaccinated players in either.

Yep correct, all sporting events held at major stadiums in QLD are double vaccinated only for everyone who comes to the ground.

Beale returning in preparation for RWC23
I've read his Racing92 contract expires this year, so he may be returning after that (last regular season Top14 match is 4th June). He won't be returning in time for this year's Super Rugby season but he may be available for this year's Wallabies squad, if he's up to par.

I’m gonna say it, on current form I’d have Beale ahead of Hodge & Banks for 15. Not that means much now as there’s a lot of games between now & the next test. But he’s a quality player in a position we aren’t flush with.
