is Dan54 Dave Rennie?

I have so many questions
Brumby Runner is Dan McKellar .. can't you tell that in the posts and also the bias selections to the Wallabies.

EDIT:- PROOF

LOL. I am honoured with the suggestion but despite the fact Dan often follows my selections advice posted here, I can assure you that I am not Dan McKellar.

Tupou has been cited so he’d have to be a big chance of missing this week v the Tahs. Who actually have Bell under doubt after he came off with back spasms on the weekend

If that's the case it'll likely be Faulkner V Fotuaika. Money on Faulkner

That’s a big concern. Given they viewed it and cleared it in the game I’d assume they’ve only cited him if they are pretty clear. In which case you’d imagine he’s likely to get a few weeks.

The standard of ruck work in Europe v Aus/NZ is stark.

Up north they are staying on their feet and driving through. Aus and NZ rucks are largely operating at below hip level.

Northern refs will judge our teams very differently.

Tupou needs to stop these low level clear outs where the main impact area is the head. Its just just too risky.

But beyond tupou its an area that all Oz teams need to learn the new way.

NH rugby has caught up, and overtaken Antipodean rugby. we need to catch up. Bok have the advantage of playing in NH. they will keep up.

Yeah - I agree Tupou needs to resist the temptation. I thought his point of contact was fine, but it was close and there is such a small margin in it. Could easily have been a red (and potentially is still going to get suspended anyway). Just don’t think it is worth the risk going forward.

Sooooo what are people's thoughts on the Vunivalu situation? Currently a truckload of money spent for zero return.

IMHO he will have to come out of the blocks firing, and last the rest of the season without injury, to justify another contract anywhere near his current one.

Will his value have come down to the NRL given his lack of footy since 2020 and his increased injury toll? Will that allow us to keep him at a lower price? Word is that Souths(?) Really wanted him but couldn't get the cash together to buy him out of his current contract?

I'm wondering what all this could mean for his contract negotiations. Seem to have been whispers since he came across that he was looking at going back to Loigue. Not necessarily a new trend with them but seems to have been more than usual.

I saw him in 1 game at suncorp last year and he was the most athletic player on the field. No doubt. We just need him fixed and committed to spend that kind of dosh on him again... I think.
Another waste of dough. Believe he will be out on the Peninsula with Uncle Wayne next year. 1.8m RA dollars should find him a nice shack out there.
When will rugby work out we have a nursery of great players coming through and don't need RL mercenaries?

At the time of signing, I don't think it was money wasted. Vuni had runs on the board at least playing some rugby over in NZ before making the switch to NRL, you could argue we stole him back.

I think his physical attributes set him apart from what is currently on offer from the out and out wingers who are in Wallaby contention. Having a full flight Marika on one wing, and an aerial threat Vunivalu on the other would create some matchup nightmares for teams.

No doubt the investment is currently wasted, but I don't think it was such a bad decision when he was signed.

totally agree - we have a great nursery of talent. the fact we went neck and neck with the brumbies shows how good our young talent and that its worth persisting with our strategy.

at hooker, prop and lock we are running a very young inexperienced team (except tupou and blyth). but nasser, faessler, zander, hoopert, nonggorr, smith etc have been wonderful. and really stuck it to a brumbies tight 5 that almost a wallaby tight 5.

throw in tomas, jeans, flook, campbell and you get a picture of a young team with so much to offer.

i'm especially keen on watching flook, henry, and faessler develop.

The ruck is probably an area WR (World Rugby) needs to actually address if they're going to keep rolling out player welfare lines.

Trying to 'pilfer' the ball has become all too common of 'sealing' off the tackled player and the defender makes no real attempt to win the ball. Additionally, defenders now fully cover the ball, duck their necks resulting in their head being the lowest and furthest part of their body.

I'd say WR (World Rugby) needs to issue guidelines that a defender needs to keep their head up and leave a gap between the tackled player and themselves. This then gives the attacking team something to aim at when they do a clean out.

In this particular instance, I'd argue Brown was so far forward that he wasn't even maintaining his body weight.

Right knee is resting on the tackled player and both hands are on the ground supporting his weight.

With the placement being so far away from the defender, Brown should have stepped over the tackled player, but he went to go as low as he could and paint a picture of stealing the ball.

Unproven at high level rugby union for $900K a year is a bitter pill to swallow. Could have given 300 to the reds under 20 program and still got a good winger for the other 600 I am sure.
