FQT Day 2:

Portugal 85-0 Kenya
USA 49-7 Hong Kong

As expected it's USA v Portugal next week for that final qualifying spot.

WR (World Rugby) will be doing everything in their powers to find something wrong with Portugal in the next 5 days

It’s a shame ‘cause Saint Étienne sucks from a fan’s POV. but we’re playing there so makes sense

Laporte has been found guilty of bribery & corruption:

WR (World Rugby) convening a meeting to work out how to deal with it.

"The World Rugby Executive Committee will convene tonight to determine the next steps in accordance with the international federation’s Integrity Code. A further update will be made following the meeting."

Holy shit! Haha good find, I didn’t stumble upon any of this.

Also - shameless plug, highest paid players at this years World Cup in my latest video:

"World Rugby notes the decision by World Rugby Vice-Chairman Bernard Laporte to self-suspend from all positions held within its governance structures with immediate effect following his conviction by the French court in relation to domestic matters, and pending his appeal.

"While acknowledging Laporte’s self-suspension and right of appeal, given the serious nature of the verdict World Rugby's Executive Committee has referred the matter to its independent ethics officer for review in accordance with its integrity code.

"World Rugby will not be making further comment until the conclusion of the independent process."

And that's all they wrote...

Even though Sky have already secured the rights to the next three RWC (2 x men + women) it's still pleasing that telco Spark are shutting down their shitty streaming service & have transferred the rights to the sports they did have (mostly cricket, football & motor sport) to FTA operator TVNZ so there's next to no chance of any rugby ending up anywhere else but Sky or TVNZ in the foreseeable future.

Just to illustrate how tinpot Spark Sport was, they claimed 100K individual streams for the women's RWC which was also shown FTA on TV3 & was that channel's most-watched sports event ever with ~1.2Mn people tuning in according to the ratings.

Why is returning the sinking ship of stuck-in-the-mud wounders that is Sky back into a monopoly a good thing? Especially as they, predictably, raise the price once they're back to being the only game in town. The sooner Sky dies the better. Hopefully NZR + Silver Lake are loading the gun...

^ I've yet to see Sky's cricket coverage freeze during the bowler's run up & remain frozen while the commentators are gushing over what a great shot was just played. Maybe the next people to try streaming will team up with a decent service provider & if so I'll make the switch but until then I'm happy to pay the extra $3 a month & get what I'm paying for 99.9% of the time.

Laporte has quit FFR (& presumably therefore WR (World Rugby)) to save all concerned further embarrassment & remove the distracting effect his legal issues are having on RWC preparations.

Dave Rennie come on down..
Rennie has a non-compete clause, I don't think there's any chance we see him coaching Fiji this year. I assume Wayne Pivac, the other former head coach from the pool is the same.

I wonder if Mick Byrne or Simon Rawalui might step in as the interim coach, given the familiarity they'll both have with the squad.
