Those wishing to change coaches, becareful what you wish for. Alan Jones is out of a job right now and would allow some of our players to flourish they're shared bible beliefs!

Bang on DD, I wondered when they got a penalty when it happened why a scrum wasn't called. I really thought the showed lack of nous without Sexton, and if he doesn't make WC, they stuffed.
Sexton at his age at the time of the RWC, there is no way he is able tp play every game , assuming Ireland get to the final

Great. But your plan is leverage that into ensuring we have another substandard coach after the RWC with a whole lot less money in the bank because you've decided to pay out the existing coach a year early and then committed to the next coach who you hired against no competition because no one else was available.

Diminishing returns. But the metric isn't profit, it is national coach performance.

The other variables are development pathways for players and development pathways for coaches. All of which sit on club systems that have stagnated in the last 2 decades since professionalism. The old saying about insanity doing the same thing and expecting different results...

Look at Ireland: they were shit for decades, talking themselves up on a few past glories, and then finally pulled their shit together for the greater good. Even despite all their provincial infighting.

Sound familiar?

Hopefully Rugby Australia pulls out of a similar dive before the nadir.

Why is everyone so negative about this game? We had a chance to win at the death in Dublin against the World #1. We're ranked #8 ffs. We were playing with a team held together by bandages on their last legs. Our 3rd choice fullback Kellaway played the whole game at 13. We were a 50/50 call away from a "an all time historic win".

A tour / year(s) of the Wallabies being their own worst enemy wears a bit thin after a while. So often so close, but so far.

An interesting take. I guess we should rememember the ranks when comparing the performance of the two sides.

What would you say are the main features between the two sides that epitomise the difference in thier current ranks?

Do you think it was the Irish defensive structure to thwart White from scoring a try in the opening minutes, or the physicality of the French defence that reduced the Australians to play without a hooker for 10 minutes? Or possibly their incredible maul defence at the end of the game that caused a turnover of posession?

I actually think Thorn might be better suited to a representative team coaching structure like the Wallabies.

I don't think he's got the technical nuance or relationship building skills with players to be one of the great coaches of all time. But he knows how to get the best out of a group of players and identify talent to suit a gameplan.

It's pretty clear from the Reds performances over the last 4 years that he can get results and put skilled players on the park, but he gets stale with a lot of players after a while. Maybe if the playing group weren't being big daddied by him for 70% of the year like in Super Rugby, his coaching style could be more impactful.

For what it's worth I'm not saying he should be thrown into the Wallabies gig right now, but generally I think his coaching style could be suited to a national team setup.

Thorn's win record is terrible. Almost as bad as Rennie's. He's lucky Covid hit so he could beat the only competition for the trophy in the Brumbies.

Also, this forum will go absolutely insane when he decides not to pick a fit Quade cos he kneed his Captain in the head 10 years ago.

Robertson is surely a lock for NZ. I think we're in a race with England for O'Gara. Which I assume we'll lose, considering he can be paid more, close to home and actually win some games.

I think Wayne Smith should be in the conversation. He's got some HC experience now with the Black Ferns. Wasn't he the reason Rennie was so successful at the Chiefs.

Agree Thorn shouldn’t be anywhere near a conversation about being part of an Australian coaching group.

Why would Rugby Australia (as a governing body) have any input into onfield tactics?

I bet Rennie would love to be able to drop the repeat offenders such as Fainga'a but he‘s constrained by the lack of capable replacements.
Yes but I suspect Rugby Australia are having input into the coaching team.

I bet Rennie would like to have his own coaching team and not be constrained by pre conceived opinions they bring be they tactics or players.

Rennie doesn’t have his own coaching team?

V, hasn't Wayne Smith said that he has no interest in being head coach or something like that? He would be exactly what we need at this time, someone to rebuild our stocks from the ground up.

I think he missed an opportunity by accepting the coaching team handed to him (assuming that story is true). But you live or die by the team you select and if he didn't select the coaching team then more fool him.
Yes, but what agreement did he have with Raelene Castle that the ARU changed after they forced her out the door? Rennie was her appointment and I'm sure he got screwed in the outcome as well.

Paisami goes down, Ikitau shifts to 12, Kellaway shifts to 13, Petaia shifts to wing. Wright shifts to fullback.
Kellaway goes down, Petaia shifts to 13, Gordon comes on to the wing.
Lolesio doesn't come off the bench for the entire game. Lol, the disrespect.

I thought Lolesio could have slotted in at 12

Wisemantel, Taylor, McKellar and du Plessis at the very least were all Rennie choices.
