Wallabies 2023

Back to Eddie, everything I've read lately seems to suggest Eddie won't be the head coach beyond 2025 imo and not because he'll be sacked. Sounds like he'll go into a more high performance role within Rugby Australia and oversee everything like Scott Johnson recently or Nucifora at IRFU. I'd say McKellar stays on as assistant to be the successor.
Any link about it? That would be perfect cause Eddie isn't good for long periods. IMO this bold move is live or die. You can win the WC with Eddie's motivation and picking the players who suit his style or you gonna be knock out in pool stage

V'Landys has a point. Too many box kicks in modern rugby. Actually, I don't think in the 70s/80s a scrum-half like Faf de Klerk could have played, he always kick the ball away from the ruck and he's a top class cause the game has changed. In the 90s a top class scrum-halves had to run and pass the ball. Not any more
You are right. Top class fly halves no longer need to be able to pass.

At the risk of being accused as a blasphemer in the holy land, too many kicking game in modern rugby. Too many box kicks. The Leaguies stay the possesion at least until the 5th tackle or 5th hug, as is described here lol. Rugby used to be a passing/running game

Of course you have to play to the strengths of the players you have but likewise, you might decide that certain skills and elements of a gameplan are essential.

It's hard to see a coach deciding that they don't want to box kick at all or that it isn't a necessary skill for a halfback.

It also isn't like the best halfbacks in World Rugby don't have complete skillsets including an excellent box kick.
agree
but saying not to pick a player cause he cant kick is waffle. every player has all the facets, it is just some are stronger in one area than another.

Under a serious SWOT type analysis the W - weakness would provide insight on where the player could put some effort to seek improvement.

As for Tate, his strengths far outweigh his weaknesses, IMHO.

How long can the RA business model of paying two people for the same role go on?
DR and EJ (Eddie Jones) are now collecting about a million bucks each for the 2023 calendar year but only one has to turn up and produce "work" for his pay packet.

Regardless of my views on Eddie being Wallaby coach again (I remain skeptical), I definitely like him back in our high performance set up. Shifting from the HC position to a long term DoR role I think would be ideal. There is no doubting his rugby IQ and for mine it's about maximising his value for the game in general here in OZ.
Just need to find a HC ( and support staff) who are on the same wavelength and that can work with him.

Seems he might be too autocratic for a DoR role.

I'd have supported Rennie until WC but it seems that Eddie wanted this WC at any cost to face England in France lol

Sure but as head coach? They've mentioned they want him to get involved in the women's program and help pathway development.
Well Razor said he wants to win a World Cup with 2 nations - so after he down-trousers Eddie at home with NZ in 2027 (meaning the toxic toad gets demoted to Woman's rugby) he can take his job as Wallabies head coach in 2028...

Have a look at him folding Jordie Barrett during super rugby and think again. Agree he's too light to steamroll defenders, but with his footwork and explosive speed he only needs to poke his nose between defenders to get over the gainline and deliver quick ball. It his only his set piece work that is holding him back.
Yeah - and there is still a you tube clip of Quade Cooper flattening Rene Ranger.

I’d expect any pro rugby player would be able to make the occasional clean shot. It doesn’t mean he’s a dominant tackler.

How long is White signed for at the Brumbies? If he and Gordon decided to leave after the WC our depth at 9 is really bad unless I am missing anyone?

Who would the best Half Backs be U23?
Ryan Lonergan, Kalani Thomas & Teddy Wilson are all very highly rated.

I believe Louis Werchon is also rated highly. Those are the guys I am aware of - I’d assume there are others in the various Super squads.

For real, not sure why so many places have written about this "likely possibility". We're both coming first.

It's not guaranteed though...

Argentina won their last match against England, and our record against Wales in recent years isn't great.
