Just have recived an inside peice of information from the 1st 15 coach Angus Sinclair from the (Shore School) that there promising 7 Marshall le maitre has suffered a suspected ACL injury at training this morning and will be on the side line for the rest of the season. This is a massive LOSS for the shore rugby program as he was an unbelievable talent rising in the GPS comp. Our thoughts are with him during this tough time and hope for a speedy recovery!. (Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do! - Robert Harold Schuller) There are no replacements named as of yet but there are some possible contenders, Tom Kennedy, Hugo Janson and David Anderson that are all hot contenders ATM

Anyone confirm if this is true? Huge loss if it is. Hopefully one of these boys can step up and fill the big shoes that Le Maitre has left them...saddening news for Shore though. Speedy recovery Marshall mate!

It is still spoken in hush tones in the east about the robbery by the gents in pink in 94. For refence the clock guide. The referee will blow time on and off as he sees fit and unlike rugby on tv it does not reflect the score board clock.

In all great game and even better was Scots getting the draw after playing against 16 opponents. I still cannot understand how the Joeys 7 was not red carded for taking the player out in the air. But again, Labor is in power these days so not much makes sense.

Indeed. I remember the SJC Sprinklers magically coming on late in the second half of the J v S 1994 decider at HH killing the S momentum. You couldn't make it up. Game stopped for 5 or 6 minutes.

There is also the legend story of the Mother of Mary Statue on top of SJC building turning to face the ground during another J v S decider in the 80's helping the J goal kicker nail one from the sideline to win the comp.

Legend is that it was Scots boys smoking behind the score board that set the sprinklers off.

MASSIVE news for the joeys boys that are competing this weekend in the 5th XV vs Shore with the promising star Sam Andrew out with a cankle problem, however the depth in the shore rugby program is very strong and there will be a promotion for TOM DUDDY from the 6th XV to pack the scrums down this weekend - Good Luck to the gents that are participating in this block buster this weekend - 10AM Northbridge A Ground see you all there

Joeys third try ( set pice scrum, cut out 12, onto fullback to winger in the corner ) has been used since Adam was a boy. Either from a clean line out 40m out or a scrum. It was the same one used to finish Newington last year and similar to finish View a few years back. Teams and coaches must know its coming and it is very simple yet if executed well ( and this the key to training at speed/accuracy of pass ) hard to stop. Slide defence is vital. Joeys 10 will pass it. no use trying to tackle him. 12 will be cut out and 13 will be flying onto it with 15 wrapping around. The D's 10,12 must slide and move up to 13 in one line. 13 must shift to cover the space between 13 and winger expecting 15 to come through and draw and pass to winger. D's winger must stay on wing and 15 should cover the attacking number who comes through the line. With video of games nowadays, hard to believe that opposition caoches can't set up defences to counter this Joeys move that is practised and executed from the 13G's to the Firsts.

Ok, I will "assist" with some corrections.

First 1994

1. I was at this game. It was defense that won that game.

Lets see what the report says....

Scots kicked off in front of an estimated crowd of 10,000 in the match to decide the premiership. The Scots bigger forward pack immediately started to play the rolling maul to great effect. In the third minute Scots had St Joseph's under pressure with a high ball under the posts. They regathered to near the posts.The conversion gave Scots the lead 7- 0. From the kick off, St Joseph's kicked to Scots backs where Simpson was able to regather the ball. From the next ensuing ruck, St Joseph's were awarded a penalty which Hannon converted. 3-7.

Scots were starting to win the majority of the possession and were attacking inside the St Joseph's 22. From a maul their backs were able to find space to send their speedy winger over for a try in the corner. 3-12. All the pressure was on St Joseph's, who needed to win some possession to mount an attack. Another deep kick by Hannon to the Scots backs proved successful, with their winger failing to find touch. Thompson was able to mount a counter attack with Rogan and Shepherd to support. The ball was fed to Griffin who had little space but was able to out-sprint
the cover defence to score in the corner. 8-12.

Joeys forwards were starting to make some strong effective tackles on their counterparts. They resisted the Scots attack who were using their big forwards as battering rams charging at the line. On two occasions the Scots forwards were held up over the line and forced back. Scots maintained the pressure but solid tackling by Thompson and Shepherd held the line. A ruck infringement gave Scots a further three points. 8-15.

From the kickoff, St Joseph's were able to move into the Scots half. Hannon was able to kick a 45 metre penalty to close the gap to 11-15. On half time he kicked another penalty to end the half at 14-15.

In the second half Scots continued their lineout domination. However Rogan was able to put us back on attack with a fine counter attack deep inside his 22. From an ensuing ruck, St Joseph's were awarded a penalty. Harmon kicked the goal to put St Joseph's in the lead for the first time in the match. 17-15. A crucial tight head to Harvey put the team on the attack. The ball was sent out to the backs with Griffin tackled down the line. From the lineout, Radford went close to scoring but was forced back. An opportunity went begging when from a five metre scrum the backs spilt the ball in attack.

Scots were able to relieve the pressure and start mounting their own attack. Scots were winning the majority of possession from the lineouts and mauls. Time and time again they were mounting attacking raids inside St Joseph's 22. Only desperate defence by both forwards and backs kept Scots from scoring. With 15 minutes to go Rogan counter-attacked again deep inside his 22.

From the ensuing ruck Shepherd made a fine break through the Scots forwards to put some sting back into the St Joseph's attack. With ten minutes left, St Joseph's won a scrum on half way. The backs decided to play a decoy centre split with Shepherd going wide and changing the angle. He was able to break the Scots centre and with two players hanging on to him he passed the ball to Wheeldon on the fly. Wheeldon had to beat the full back and the cover coming across. This he was able to do, and scored out wide. This made the score 22-15 in our favour.

With seven minutes to go, Scots hammered the St Joseph's line. From a lineout near the 22, Scots second rower made a bursting run on the short side, only to be tackled by the smallest player on the field in Steven Devine. For the last few minutes of the game the premiership was on the line, with the much bigger Scots forwards charging for the line, only to be turned back by the smaller St Joseph's pack. In the end St Joseph's were able to withstand the Scots onslaught to win the match and the premiership 22-15.

I was there too. Great report. No mention of the sprinklers :) End of the day scots got their 93 and joeys got their 94. SHS were unlucky to run into both these sides otherwise they could have had a double 93/94.
