I might have missed an explanation somewhere but what is the rationale for Tupou to be changing squads? What is the difference between playing vs Tonga as opposed to vs Argentina?

In this game I think most of them were just poorly executed. They were going way too deep to allow us to compete for the ball. A telling factor was that only a couple of them allowed us to lay a tackle immediately (the next best thing after being able to compete for the ball).

I don't think this was because they ran it from everywhere instead. It's primarily because most of South Africa's long kicks were to touch not keeping the ball in play. They combined contestable kicks with kicks for touch.

We only kicked twice more than South Africa (and that includes the Gordon grubber at the end etc.) but most people's perception of the game was probably that we kicked the ball way more than South Africa did.

Weird way to frame it. He retained the Bledisloe in 2001 and 2002, won the Tri nations in 2001 and went into extra time of the final in the 2003 World cup. He also won a Super Rugby title and coached Australia A to a win over the Lions

Every coach has failures, Steve Hansen holds the World Record for consecutive Tests lost as coach of Wales, he's not as Good as Jason Gilmore either I suppose

I know that, but in France the wingers chase hard and compete for more contestable kicks. They do it on a weekly basis.
I understand to compete we need a large pack and I want us to adopt whatever tactics make the big guys successful there.
I was more meaning if we pick a large pack at altitude and continually use the tactic of kicking to the opponents we aren’t going to get the best out of the massive pack we pick. Unless of course we kick more intelligently and chase harder.

This has been a thing for a long time - I can't recall a game in the last 20 years where we've had a decent kick - chase game. So many aimless kicks with either no or just lazy chasers.
