Wallabies 2023

Does anyone actually know why teams are getting their squads in so early? Apparently the deadline from WR (World Rugby) (World Rugby) is August 26. That's over 2 weeks away.

AFAIK, any changes during the squad until then are freely fluid, no WR (World Rugby) (World Rugby) involvement or regulation is required.

Now, I get they'd need to probably publicise who left on a plane but until then - what's the point?
Training, training and more training the squad needs it.

Yes, it's becoming more and more evident that Eddie has his eyes on RWC27 and Lions.

He's really doubling down on the '19 France model.

He's trying his "smash and grab" with a couple of young pick-pockets rather than Ocean's 11.
I think Eddie has his eyes on the exit door and is doing what he thinks may help us with the Lions tour and 27.

So, we are going to take two 10s. One untested at this level but shaky at best in Super Rugby. The other does not kick goals for his club and has also been inconsistent in just about everything in his few tests. No other options at 10.
EJ (Eddie Jones) (Eddie Jones) is either mad or a mad genius. Which is it?
I'm going with the idea that Donaldson is one of the "last five" players picked for the squad, primarily there to train hard and keep up morale, Eddie's mentioned that on some of his interviews about the squad. Apparently popular, good trainer, etc.

If Cooper isn't in the squad he's presumably not one of the last five players though. He's an injury away from starting at 10.

So what? Throw him in to start a semi final against a top side? He can’t even drive the Tahs around at this point. Take an experienced hand for one of your 10s. You have to.

Once teams have named their final 33 man squad players can only be replaced for medical or compassionate reasons. Teams must complete the relevant paperwork and send it to World Rugby along with a medical certificate where appropriate. Once signed off the replacement is not allowed to play for 48 hours. The replacement is permanent.
Yes, and we have to name our final squad by Aug 26th. We can make as many changes as we like between now and then. I am going to assume that the 33 that gets named tonight, and the 5-10 extras are the actual squad members. There is probably still a bit of jostling to happen.

Or over Hodge or Lolesio or Foley or even Wright. It’s madness or he just doesn’t give himself a legit chance of doing well in this RWC. I would take Lynagh way before Donaldson, even though he is not quite ready. Edmed too.
Foley for this WC would be most logical

A lot of interest here in which mediocre back that hasn't demanded a spot beats which other mediocre back that hasn't demanded a spot. Whilst i don't think Jones is necessarily planning for the Lions as part of his selections, he probably does appreciate that the optics associated with sending a young team to get beat is better than sending dad's army to achieve the same result.

I reckon Hodgey might be picked tonight. We've lost Quade and Pietsch, not much utility cover with Petaia guaranteed starting too.
