NSW AAGPS 2024

Is it really good for the game to have the AAGPS Schools having a dick measuring comp? Would they still invest the same amount into rugby if it was a mixed league?

Personally think this is a bit of a joke. In recent years we as a community have forgotten what GPS school rugby stands for. As far as I'm concerned, this video reflects a rising celebrification of schoolboy rugby players that only has detrimental impacts on the players. They are in year 12, are completing an HSC, and are still impressionable teenagers, and to have people fawning over them playing rugby for a school cannot be productive. I think in some cases it puts too much pressure on them and in worse cases can make them feel like they're above members of the school and outside the standards of the school because they are a part of this 'celebrity' rugby culture. Schools should look to make changes to this so that it doesn't spiral out of control. Note: you would never have seen documentaries about GPS rugby when I was growing up.
“Rising Celebrification ” ?

Bs…. gps schools have been putting out highlight videos for decades ..dating back to the 80s ..

and the “ too much pressure “ comment is silly … like it or not GPS rugby is one of the premier competitions which feeds the next generation of Rugby union and NRL stars … you don’t play 1st/ A level of sport without the expectation of professionalism aka “pressure”

Can argue we do have mixed league with the GPS v CAS, ISA games.

I love how it’s been decided that Private Schools are responsible for the development of Wallabies and not Rugby Australia and the State Unions.
Private schools subsidise RA to the tune of tens of millions every year. RA should stop taking the piss and give back to grass roots.

Heard Dan Smith (I) got best forward for the 2nd xv this year. Given this, I think he is likely to make the 1 XV in 2024, even with competition such as Daniel Saunders, Phoenix Graham, George Tancred, Ambrose Hennessey, Henri Dempsey, Campbell Conna

Edit: I also would say in terms of 4-8, Riverview will have the best depth in 2024

Thoughts?

I believe the 2024 Riverview pack will have a good mixture between year 11 and 12, maybe even more year 11 than people expect.

Like I have said in previous posts, the coaching satff at View has "deliberatly " focused on 2024 and held a few 16's players back from playing opens last year. Good or bad this will show how View end up in 2024. 2023 1st and 2nds did very well and probably achieved better than expected results. Fitness, team cohesion and a few very good players made for a good season. Add to the returning players an undefeated 16's squad, the 2024 season looks promising. I still think Scots go in as favs but I reckon View can pull an upset over 2 legs and Scots may stumble somewhere. Scots Achilles heel will be their forwards but their backs are very talented. New's backline looks good on paper as well but not sure about forwards and depth.

They have not deliberately held back players this year. They are not "building" for a premiership, they tried to win it, coming 2nd in the comp. They haven't built for 2024, that is so wrong. You can hardly "build" for a premiership in the GPS competition unless you recruit new players.

No worries Marlins Merchant.
Never said they did not WANT to win it this year. As a View supporter, I was very proud and pleasantly surprised how both teams went. Of course each school WANTS to win the prem every year. It just does not happen and the coaching staff of each school has methods of achieving this. It does not mean they neglect a year group, and "deliberately"is probably the wrong word to use, however some year groups are stronger than others and that means the staff might target that particular year. I don't think I'm so wrong but hey, we'll see what happens. I do think you can build for a prem as Scots has blooded a lot of their yr10/11 boys over the last 2/3 years and probably looking forward to 2024/25 as their "window" of opportunity.

If they were building like Scots wouldn't they put all the u16s in the opens?

Great video of Leo. Interesting that most of the highlights are of him playing 13. Didn't he play 15 as well. I think he'd be a very good 13 but how would that fit into the rest of the Scots backline ?

Been over this,

12: Onitoni Large
13: Zac Fittler
15: Leo Jaques

Worked for them for half of this year, should work next year.

There are many ways of skinning a cat Marlins Merchant. As said, different methods of achieving the ultimate goal. I think View's "method"of building is to keep the team together and build team cohesion and confidence. We all know that opens is very differnet to 16's, however having a very talented 16's squad who have gone undefeated, then add a few very good returning opens players forms a very good opens squad with great depth. That's their way. Not everyoné's. I personally think it's good to keep those boys together then throw them to the wolves. Time will tell.

9. Hughes/Patterson
10. Sopoenoe
11. Gow
12. Large
13. Fittler
14. Macknzie
15. Jacques

Good backline.

Think the comp will have many great insides next year with the likes of Large (S) Fenwickle (K) Gough (J) Fittler could fill in, Terry (I) Conick (E)

Also think that rodwell would be in contention as he is a very good player and one or if not the best player for newington this year. Can play 10,12,15
