Hi Raelene, if Schmidt is appointed HC who would you like to see as assistants?

What’s the consensus here now, is it Schmidt best candidate and daylight second?

Was chatting to some of my rellies who are over from UK and they reckon some rugby media pundits over there are saying the Schmidt signing is a done deal, not sure why they’ve got inside running but maybe some contacts from his time with Ireland.

I hope they are right. From all accounts he is a very competent coach.

There's a story in today's Hurled quoting Hansen saying that we should appoint an Australian coach. Mack Hansen, not Steve.

The Australian playing for Ireland that’s coached by an English man? I’ll pass.
Yeah thanks Mack…. Maybe the Irish should pick Irish players

His comments hold about as much weight as ours on the topic.
Happy new year everyone, back from my self imposed semi ban.

I saw the article pop up on my feed yesterday and immediately thought of both of the comments above.

Joe Schmidt is our man.

He took on an impossible challenge. He had to cobble together his support staff at short notice. He dropped several quality players. Surely he did not have enough time to get a full understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the potential playing group. He announced to the world that his aim was to build towards 2027.

If this is competence, I will walk backwards down Martin Place in my old fashioned jock strap.

Jones didn't take on an impossible challenge, but he turned it into one. For a start, the whole 'building to 2027' bullshit came in post WC disaster. Prior to that he just shot his mouth off about how we were going to break a 24 year losing cycle at the WC, his exact words we were going to do a 'smash and grab' of the WC, and then attacked any journalist who questioned anything he did or said. With, as was just said by Wamberal, insufficient time to build to the WC, he immediately blew up everything Rennie had been building (all of which anyone with a modicum of sense would have done after the WC if it had gone badly), picked an in experienced and, in some cases, out of form squad, gave them a rigid but nonsensical game plan, then when we had our worst ever WC, packed his bags, did the 'I take responsibility but it was everyone else's fault' bullshit and f...ked off.

His stats as presented by Sully might look all right, but what shape did he leave every team he left in? Australia the first time, Queensland, England, Australia the second time? This guy has a wealth of coaching experience, and may well have some rugby smarts, but his ego and his mania to be seen as a maverick genius brings him unstuck every time.

I think the Sydney CBD is safe Wamberall.
