Waratahs 2024

Pretty hard to do that when their man of the match lock is playing for the opposition.
I know the Kiss/Irish connection, but a bit of a baffler if we didn't look at him with the Tah's genuine lock stocks are light. We have so many hybrids in Holloway, Hanigan and now Lee-Warner. I think he'll be a good pickup for the Reds.

Yeah he looks like a good solid toiler, I'm keen to see how he goes in Super. I was pretty surprised when we picked him up and certainly the history with Kiss must have helped, but hearing the wraps Hoiles has on him the tahs might have missed a trick there.

Just watched the Waratahs/Reds game on Stan - don't know the players by name, but the Tahs #7 and #11 looked like they'd struggle in amateur rugby. Tahs #10 lacked composure. Sadly couldn't see too many shining lights, and what a shambles at the end with the try line beckoning and 3 Tahs lined up to score with not a Reds player in front of them - schoolboy rugby [and that is unfair to schoolboy rugby].

For the reds, #7 and #8 were impressive.
I also saw you say on the reds thread that the Waratahs #7 looked out of his depth, but you also say here you don’t know his name.

His name is Charlie gamble and he’s not out of his depth. I think he is returning from a long injury layoff, so perhaps a passive approach is by design.

Correct - didn't know his name on either thread, hence referring to him as #7 [his position]; thank you for the information.

Aaron Smith did worse than Kurtley and still got hundreds of caps for the All Blacks. Don’t think it should really affect his ability to be contracted.
Was also at a completely different stage of has career. Smith was 29 and Beale is 35. Smith also didn't sit out for over a year like Beale has.

NZ Rugby‘s moral standards for contracting/selecting players with checkered a history with/against women isn’t a great benchmark to measure against.
I wouldn’t conflate violence & abuse with infidelity. I’m sure there’s a bunch of Wallabies who’ve cheated, Kurtley was just unlucky enough to get caught.

And one is the greatest All Blacks scrum half of all time, I understand they’re different just pointing out we shouldn’t clutch our pearls over it. He’s a douchebag and if his on field performance merited a contract then so be it.

How would we know? Is he going to run our for Norths, Randwick or Easts (or a new club) in the SS come April?

After the last trial It's very concerning through the key positions. I know Porecki was out but Mahe was being picked off for fun, Gordon is Gordon and Walton ain't a Fullback even if he's the backup behind Max who will be coming into the season cold.

I'm not willing to trash Edmed yet as I think it's a hard gig being outside Gordon who plays what he sees which for all the tries he's scored, can put the backline in bad positions.

They need to tighten up the discipline as well. All for aggressive defence but there were multiple borderline late, without the ball and no arms shot that don't need to be done. Look at how Bell hit Hodgman....

I hope it was a case of a heavy workload but I doubt they have been doing much more than the Reds or Rebels...

I played for a premier grade team years ago, in trials the coaching staff would put us through a 30-40min high intensity warmup/cardio session leaving a few especially in the forwards gassed by the start of the match. Never knew if it was done intentionally or not, but didn't happen during the season and naturally the guys were a bit more sprightly in the actual games. Maybe the Tahs are doing the same.

But his little cubicle experience didn't end in court. But I agree - once he is found Not Guilty of a crime he should be eligible. weather or not a clubs wants the baggage or if he is even good enough to get a gig, another question altogether. I think he will be playing overseas

A 10 will always look shit if his pigs aren't doing their job. they get deeper and deeper and deeper trying to get some time

But Edmed needs a really talented set of go forward backs/backrowers (Perese, Gleeson and randomly Foteki) around him because he offers little to nothing in attack. Tackles well, good kick out of hand, great goal kicker, but unlikely to send a pass neatly to put a runner in space or make that darting run

When he has worked, he had a healthy Gordon running the game from 9 with plenty of dynamic flat runners making space and Gordon darting behind as the opportunities ensue

Gordon overplays his hand… would not want to be a 10 outside him…

If a player is killing it, they can get away with a lot, apparently Andrew Johns rarely trained when there was a good surf running
