Can't say I understand this. Hopefully they move up soon so we can see some fair racing. I've seen it before where schools start better rowers lower to get them back into swing of things, but if that combination rows on March 16th, it wont even be a competition. Completely unfair. Hopefully King's play fair here.
Unfortunate for Shore, considering its probably the only event they had a chance of winning this year. Shame about what a once great shed has fallen to.

Silly statement. It's impossible to be good ALL the time. Shore might not be having a fantastic time at the moment in rowing but their time will come again.

Yes, I agree with this. Shore has had a few rough years with the HOTR but with the two new coaches coming in I am thinking that some real change could be happening. We have seen this with the first VIII having a massive improvement throughout their holiday training block.

Yes, I would have to agree. A great holiday camp/s have done wonders for the crew with them setting a crew PB in the Kings/PLC regatta by 4 seconds and look to be building on that

Does anyone know why St Augustines always stack a four to put into the 1st four event they also have one in the 4th 4. Although it may challenge the view boys I think it should only be GPS crews in this race, as st Augustines won't be in the head of the river. Anyways the boys will enjoy this challenge of a tougher competition, as riverviews 1st iv are just technically better than the GPS crews, and it is also there home turf.

Hello gentlemen,

Was out for a row in the single this morning, took off from the sydney uni boatshed into the lane cove river. I was delighted to find the boys from saint Josephs as well as Saint Ignatius utilising the horrendous water around those ends. I was giggling with joy to watch the St Joseph's first and second four as well as the riverview fours and some of their lower eights row round the course once more. For reference I have a grandson at saint josephs will row in the first four three seat this weekend. I was however, suprised to watch the St Joseph's first four experience a mishap, which if you have watched "the boys in the boat" you will know that it is essential. However, as descendant from a rower such as myself it was definitally a suprise. I do think that that william raven needs to move a few of those first boys up into the big boy eights . This will result in a sub 6 to come for certain. However, as St Josephs is an inferior college, This will not happen.

St Ignatius however, have some serious reconsidering to do with their selections. I was unfortunate enough to have to watch their "first eight" row past me. By the way I had just done by daily 3k sprint at rate 38 in the single, steady state at 1:35 and I had just finished and was going rate 16 1:42 for a warm down quick paddle, this is the only reason they went past me. However, as their ogre-like eight came past I was shocked to observe an absolute creature of a human being in the stroke seat. This boy... Oh My. I feel sorry for him. He was comparable to "Caliban" from the tempest and I couldn't help but feel bad for the eight. For "Riverview's first eight" to be following anyone except for WPH Volcano himself, must be demoralising as the boys must know they have a much better alternative at their disposal. My guess is that they are intentionally slowing themselves down by not utilising king WPH.

I hope these issues will be addressed.

Only GPS crews should be at the HotR. For all other regattas all and any schools and clubs with junior rowers are welcome.

Junior rowing in Sydney was an all boys event until some 25 years ago, apart from a handful of girls who rowed from senior clubs, mostly in sculls. Sydney girls schools have done a magnificent job over this time without owning one boatshed; they've had to beg, borrow or make some strange arrangements to get access to boatsheds. Remember the ungentlemanly conduct of Joeys when they withdrew Loreto Nornamhurst's access to their Tarban Creek boatshed, LN now train at SIRC; that's commitment. And the unseemly shitfight when the great unwashed objected to Ascham putting money into Sydney High's boatshed at Abbotsford, even though High don't own it. As far as I can work out the only non-GPS boys schools who put crews together are St Augustine's, Redlands and Cranbrook. They should be encouraged at every turn.

Along with Sydney girls schools participation in rowing, boys and girls schools elsewhere in New South Wales and the ACT have taken up the sport. There were a coupla Canberra crews at last Saturday's state finals, and a crew from Kinross Wolaroi won their final. Even TAS now row.

My point here is it's in the interests of senior rowing to have as many juniors rowers as possible. This development of junior rowing in Australia has had a positive effect on the results of our senior rowers in all international competitions in the past few decades.

Look logic says they'll come back around soon enough. Year 8 Quads and Year 10 VIII's this year look very promising. Fours are mainly Year 11's who are constantly sticking on Ignatius' tail. Would not be surprised to see them out the front for the next few years. Glenn Bates is a smart guy, he'll get them good sooner or later. Last and this year are rebuilding seasons; get back the middle part of their program and get ready to push out front soon.

I've heard that there has been some US college scouts out at various GPS boatsheds does anyone have any information of boys likely to land recruiting spots and/or scholarships to any of these schools

Well look I wouldn't be surprised, its usually Yale, Brown, Cal and Washington out at this time of year. People like Frederikson (J, 2023), Kenny (E, 2015), Carboni (E, 2017) and McClean (K, 2020) have all gone to varsity schools in the USA. I'm sure a number of people have been in touch with these scouts. Such is GPS Rowing.
