Agree Chair, I don't usually talk about individuals, but now Jack and Ned Power are out of school, I can mention we are friends of their parents. Wonderful and grounded family, both Jack and his older brother Ned are talented rowers, and have worked hard for all they have achieved. Their parents own a very successful thoroughbred stud and bred the stallion that won the Melbourne Cup in 2014. We enjoyed watching Jack's success yesterday as part of their UTS VIII with Clubb and O'Meara. Jack and O'Meara also have a silver oar from last year's schoolboy 1st VIII race in the View crew that not only won HOTR, but nationals.

Gee, saw some footage of that King's First Eight boat. Real big problem there. Appeared to be a rather large hole in the side. Hopefully the lesson is learned. Always use a Hudson!
Just not sure what the thinking has been from the higher ups in the kings shed... after last year's Kings 3rd VIII demonstrated the strong, controlled, and powerful row possible in a Hudson shell, you'd think they would bring those boats down to the more amateur leagues such as the 1st 8, but no. Really scratching my head here...

Just had a secondary review of the results, and I'm starting to like Shore's chances more and more. Can they win on the 16th? Most likely not. Is there a shot? Absolutely. It's anyone's game and this crew has been improving week after week. The Coach Baker has done a magnificent job turning the sham that was that crew in November to a well-oiled machine. Question is can they improve enough before the big dance?

Well done to all the crews who came away with a silver oar on Saturday. It was another great weekend for the sheds involved. Kings seem to have a very expensive day putting a hole in their Fillipi and breaking 2 oars in the process. Interesting to not see St Josephs or Newington as I heard St Josephs have been battling with COVID but Newington decided to have a double session on the Nepean? Nonetheless some great racing from Shore, Kings, and Riverview who were the best 3 crews across the divisions on the day. Schoolboy race of the day would have to be heat 1 of the 1st VIII with Kings narrowly edging out Shore in a Gold Cup classic! Keen to see how the crews perform at the SRC regatta this weekend as well as the crews that race at the Schoolboy HOTR.

A great weekend of racing and a massive well done to the Riverview VIII for winning. Very surprised to see Riverview not get the clean sweep in the fours, with St Josephs taking the win in the 2nd IV race. Additionally, does anyone know how much Kings boat repair is going to set them back, and if we need to start go fundme page to help them? Lastly, i am very confused regarding the Joeys viii no show at gold cup, I would have thought they would go for an undefeated term of racing.

Hi Elliot,

I can only assume that someone in the Joeys VIII had fallen to illness and hopefully they are able to hit the ground running for this weekends SRC Regatta at SIRC. As for Kings, I believe they have borrowed one of Sydney Uni's empachers to use for the remainder of the season as they have already exceeded the salary cap for this years 1st XV and have no money left.

Cheers,
John

Should spend the money from all the Pacific Island imports on a new Filippi shell instead!

A terrible regatta this week as expected. Hope to see a race with the joeys, view, kings and shore 1 viii back together in the coming SRC regatta or maybe schoolboy HOTR. Nonetheless congrats to view on a good win.
The sprint to march 16th is on...

First off, chill with the glazing alright, Shore are a top 5 pretender I still have St Josephs, Kings, Scots Riverveiw and Newington over them in that order. I think it was anotgehr step in the right direction for the Scots rowing program and i am eagerly awaiting this weeks Sydney regatta. Has anyone got predictions for the First and Second VIII? @The Chairman

Glenn,

I think you need to chill with the glazing yourself, I know you are a passionate scots supporter but scots were 10 seconds behind Riverview in the a final. Are you sure you were watching this years gold cup or are you stuck in 2020. No one is stopping the view boys in this up and coming reggata.

In the 1st VIII I think Kings could be up there closer to Joeys and are likely to beat Riverview but wont quite have enough juice to beat joeys.

As for the 2nd VIII I think it will be a great race this weekend with joeys, Riverview, kings and Newington all competing for a podium finish.

I agree with predictions for first VIII, it's been a while since we've seen a race with all the top 5 1st VIII's competing.
Confused about 2nd VIII predictions though. I think Ignatius and King's will both be coming off the back foot from their poor performance at Gold Cup.
Thoughts?

Riverview and Kings have been the dominate 2nd VIII's all season, one race at gold cup doesn't define their season.

i doubt joeys 2nd viii will be making podium at all this season, with the rest of the field just far more dominant.
