I'm not 100% sure but my understanding is the tackled player has to take the action 'immediately'. Similar to reaching out and scoring a try if tackled short, the ball carrier is supposed to make the decision quickly. So he can't place the ball back and then decide to pop it up or reach out for a try. It's one action that is supposed to be 'immediately.'

I could be wrong. LOL

My coaches always told me when I played you lose the right to it as soon as somebody contests it. So if someone is legally trying to pilfer 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds afterwards that’s when you can no longer try and place it

Had a go and got 12 out of 20 right - 60%. Thought I'd get around the 70% mark, but not to be.

A few surprising answers, like refs are obliged to call time off for players to tie up their boot laces. The off side law with the retreating player being put onside after the 10 kicks it is also bewildering. If the offside player was still on the wrong side of the offside line when the 10 kicks, what's to stop him from competing for the ball . I also have a real issue with the penalty for one player falling to ground in a ball chase. Probably meant to be an action against "hollywooding" but can't say I've ever seen it in practice.

Yeah, he started at Waiopehu in either my last or second-last year. Never had him as a teacher but was pretty popular esp with the girls.

Yep, I thought it would of been end of your time, I coached one of college rugby teams with him about the year 1st XV did their Aussie trip.

Also interesting he went to Pommie land for c ouple of years, and was TMO of a game involving Los Spencer when he was there. So he would of been probably his PE teacher.

Intentionally throwing the ball into touch is a penalty.

You can’t deliberately throw, pass or bat the ball into touch.

Many a carnival 7s game (where you often have a bunch of league players who aren’t familiar with the rule) are lost due to this. But the odd bigger game too.

I mean, you can kick the ball dead in the in goal, or run it out, but you can't slap or throw it dead either. It's arbitrary but consistent.

I seem to recall someone running it out in their own in goal after the siren and it causing an issue. I cant recall exactly but maybe it became a 5m scrum??? I think the commentators said if he kicked it out is would have ended the game.

That being said, maybe it is a false memory

I didn't see the specific ones you are referencing, but I thought it wasn't so much that they were offside, it's that they aren't on their feet.

From the definitions in the lawbook

Off feet: Players are off their feet when any other part of the body is supported by the ground or players on the ground.

Law 13.3: A player on the ground in the field of play, without the ball is out of the game and must:........
Not tackle or attempt to tackle an opponent.
