What time are the games this Thursday? I have notified my lawyers that I am going to make an appearance at Scots. First time in many years. Looking forward to catching up with old friends. @Balmain Subbies please tell me you will there.

Very impressive effort by New in the 1st XV against Shore yesterday.
Particularly given they had 5 starters out - 2 starting props, Lock, Captain and No 8, Makasini plus lost a prop inside 10 mins.
Some highly peculiar refereeing too. Sent No 10 Jarryd King to sin bin for a hip drop tackle. Now that's illegal in the other code, and should be in ours (just ask Max Jorgensen) but it isn't illegal at the moment. So bizarre how a referee can send someone off with a yellow card for something that isn't actually illegal. He also had some strange scrum interpretations. So to win despite the loss of 6 players plus some bizarre refereeing in such a manner was hugely impressive.
Starting No 8, Hunter Hall, standing in for Simmons the skip is a big lump of a lad currently in Year 10. Scored a great try and was very physical.
Good wins for 2nd grade and 16As. The 16Bs game was feisty. Two shore kids got sin binned. The behaviour of them and their parents left a lot to be desired. One New kid also found his way to the bin. Hopefully the return fixture doesn't see a repeat of such unsavoury behaviour.
Overall a good day out and looking forward to Thursday hosting Kings
Simmons likely to still be out but hoping Scheck and Viliamu might be available. I believe Makasini didn't play because he was injured this time, rather than because he played in a league game like what happened in Round 1. Hopefully Kupu is back at lock as Muir the other lock went ofd injured so not sure he'll play Thursday.

Looking at the clip you could argue the number 12 wasn’t in the wrong but in my opinion needs a talking to
HIP DROP tackles are against Law 9.13!! Jorgensen’s example should have been cited, then the awareness would have hopefully spread to get them reduced in our game

After watching all the games, i agree with most of this. I definitely would have included Perrett (K) as the #4 as he was brilliant in the line outs and stole a few as well. He had dominant tackles and second efforts were brilliant. I would also have Lavercombe (K) #1. When you talk about general impact on a game, I think that him stopping Justice on a kick return at the start of the game was very strong and think that it caused Justice to be very quiet for the rest of the game. For Joeys, you can't have a quiet Justice and go on to win a game. Like Perrett, dominant tackles and second efforts were outstanding. In the Joeys v Kings game, Toia was certainly the best on field.
Hmm....reading that law is pretty vague. And it's entirely subjective. Law needs to be more prescriptive. FWIW I hate those types of tackles. Still think dishing out a yellow card was absolutely ridiculous. Mind you this guys interpretations of the law over recent games have baffled many
@RuckReporter Any report on the 4th XV Newington V Shore game. I was at the Scots v Iggies game was a cracking watch with Scots getting the victory 22-15.

Considering that it was reckless (not intentional - but most cards come from this) from the tackler and incredibly painful for Callaghan (E) who almost left the field, I think a card is in order. Doing that is how ankles & knees are done and literal bones are snapped, we have seen it all before.
Time stamp is 24:35.
Watching the game I do think that NC was putting a lot of targeting pressure on the returners (Wendt, Callaghan) which is all good football, and underlines how other teams are acknowledging the threat they pose. Callaghan did have his spark, hard to touch with the ball and setting up Shore's only try with true skill off their own kick off.
An overall opinion of that game; Newington played strong, Shore played weak. I think Newington should win the premiership this year (good ROI), and they played a great game especially with their back line, who broke through almost every time the ball reached 12. On the other hand, Shore played one of their poorer games this year. Riddled with errors and missing some leadership (Galligan), it's a bit of a wakeup call for the reigning premiers. A loss against Scots was accounted for by missing players and playing a winning game until after the buzzer, and a loss against Joeys was accounted for with 'it's round 1 against Joeys' and they were missing key players. Against New I can't find one of those reasons for a 42 point margin. HOWEVER, I think the boys do have it in them to pull back the season, they have the spark, talent and points of excellence to reel back the pack. This weekend against View will be an important game, and a thriller.
My favourite player to watch this round from Shore was Hockey on the wing, running the ball hard and fast, putting plenty of boys on their bums, definitely one to watch as one of the hardest ball-running backs. From Newington I can't go past King at no 10, lining his backs up nicely to put them over plenty of times.
