Queensland Reds 2026

Mostly he was injured.

Indeed, he was last season, but he was also mentoring both Tom and Harry for the last 2. I reckon he'd done that job well and considering the long bouts sidelined by various injuries the Reds made the tough call to not compete in the contracting. There were no hard feelings and good wishes both ways. There's no point going back now.

I thought he was solid enough. He was never going to live up to the hype from last year. Lots of promise but also lots of improvement required before any serious discussion about going to the next level.

Where do we think Tim Ryan sits? Was he a little bit quieter this year? Future Wallaby for mine, just gauging what people think.
Classic case of second season syndrome combined with a different centre pairing most weeks didn't help his season.

I rate him as a player & would love to see him gain 10kgs (with the caveat if only he can keep the speed & agility)

Kotoni Staggs is someone the reds should look at. Staggs' explosive power and line-breaking ability would be an excellent addition to the Reds' backline, providing a boost to their attacking options.

Staggs literally signed a new Broncos deal this week. He’s no chance regardless if he would be a good fit.

in vicinity of $800k a year as well.. Even if he was unsigned, Reds/Rugby aren’t in a position to be throwing out that cash.
If we’re playing with Monopoly money, then sure; sign Stephen Chrichton, Tabuai-Fidow and Rob Toia.. All great athletes.

Realistically, Reds are playing with a budget of >$200k for new outside backs, and that’s probably generous.

Okay - what are some other options?

Yep exactly. If there was any young outside back that would be a legitimate future target for me it would be Toia.

Proven rugby background at Nudgee.

Rugby would need to fork out $1M+ though

I don’t think we have the luxury or finding another high quality centre with our budget.

Our current 12/13 stocks are actually quite good

Paisami, Flook, Pakeho, Goldsborough are a pretty decent group to have in the squad. I’m not including Henry as I just don’t think he will be around much longer or on the field.

The back row? The back row already brimming with wallabies and future wallabies?

I’d throw Xavier Rubens in there too. He’ll be pretty handy in a few years.
