Pats v Knox in all grades except 14s and 13s…
Interesting. Particularly when in CAS rounds both Knox teams ended up with 6pts (14A 1w, 2d, 2l, 13A 2w, 3l) - they don't look like disaster year groups.

Can vaguely understand the 14As given Pats beat Augs and Oakhill (and I think went undefeated in ISA), but 13As on paper looked like a reasonable game.

The only real crossover results we've got are against Waverley where both Pats and Knox were well beaten in both age groups, (Knox 76-7 and 59-12 and Pats 47-21 and 60-0)

It's what baffles me too. These teams are being treated like they have no idea yet their results indicate otherwise.

DaS,
I will have a go at picking seeing these are the last games.
Not sure what you mean by semis at Oakhill?

Oaks v Waves. Oaks have home ground advantage and whilst not sure how Oaks play, I do know the Waves throw the ball around.
Not sure how this will fare given the ground should be damp. However, Barker only beat the Waves by a penalty goal in the last 2 minutes and yet Oaks got pulverised by Barker.
No surprise I will pick the Waves by +10.

Clearly Auggies are a good side but all things being equal, and at Barker, my money is on
Barker +10.

Pats at home will trouble Knox, and herein lies the potential upset, but my money is on
Knox +8.
Wow you would think I was a CAS supporter!

1 last comment about the mismatch 13s and 14s games re Knox and Barker. Both did front up against the strong Waves teams, so why not the ISA schools who arguably aren’t as strong in those age groups. Must be fixed next year

A Message for Parents as Schoolboy Rugby Wraps Up

To all the parents out there watching their boys finish up school rugby, well done. The Schoolboy rugby journey is a great part of Rugby and its sad when it ends, but also the beginning of next steps. And I hope this post is informative

Before you get swept into Colts footy...
Here’s something you might not know—and it matters.

The Colts Player Points System (2026)

There’s a rule in place that says:

If your son plays 6 or more games of 1st Grade Colts at a club, he becomes a 5-point player under the Points Cap system.
What does that mean? It means he’ll be costly for any other club to take—even if the environment he’s in now isn’t the right fit.

Now imagine this:
Your son gets promised the world in Year 12—kitted out, schmoozed, told he'll be “developed”... only to find himself lost in a poor culture, under poor coaching, or sitting behind three older players who were promised the exact same thing.

But now he’s played six games.
Now he's locked in.
Now he’s too “expensive” to take a fresh shot elsewhere.

This system rewards clubs for fast recruitment, not genuine development.
It doesn’t ask, “Did you help this kid grow?”
It only asks, “Did you get him on the park six times?”

What Should You Look for Instead?

Before signing anything or accepting boots and promises:

  • Check the culture – Speak to families already there. Is the club really developing your player or are they just all about recruitment and grade and colts is just an after thought once the season starts.
  • Check the facilities – Is your young player going to get good access to the tools and facilities he'll need to grow from student to adult player
  • Check the coaches – Are they passionate about Colts development? Or are they using it as a stepping stone for themselves to progress to Grade?

You’re not just choosing a club.
You’re choosing a two-year experience at a critical point in your son’s journey—as a player and a young man.

Btw we should ask -
Why doesn’t the points system allow freedom of movement during Colts?
Why are 17-year-olds being forced to make decisions that shape the next two years of their rugby future before they’ve even stepped on a Colts training paddock?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to apply the points weighting when Colts players graduate to Grade?
That way, we’d be rewarding clubs who actually invest in young players—not just those who get a signature early.

I hope this is useful - make of it what you will - I will post across the forum for each ISA, CAS an GPS
Ignore if not of value.

Oakhill spent at least 50 minutes of the game v Barker with 14 players on the field due to a two yellow/red card to one of their centres in the first half. That being said the error rate was mountainous and coupled with 14 men it was a difficult day out against a very well put together Barker team. When they are on and mimimise their errors Oakhill can beat any team, and I expect them to bounce back with vigour this weekend.

Auggies can put pressure on Barker and if they have some luck and hang in then I can see them pinching a win here.

Pats are improving every game, and they have moments in the games where they are on and some where they aren't, however the game against Waverley shows they are very competitive when on. That being said I think Knox will be beyond them, but any team on any day can beat anyone.
