Sydney Subbies 2025

Oh and of course The Main Event: Halligan Cup Grand Final!

It's midday at Woollahra #3 which is about a 1PM finish. Hills have obligations 1:45PM at Tweedale for Farrant.

So I'll back Colleagues 6s to get it done given they'll have a pile of bodies available, by contrast. First time the sides have met this year.

Colleagues convincing with the first 5 tries before Hills got a couple of their own.

A lot of close games and upsets today. Subbies rugby delivers.

Hornsby over Hills by that margin surprised me a little. Hills lost their starting hooker early but Hornsby were on a tear, getting out 21-0 early. When they've got their best lineup on the park, they're good as they showed last year. Looking back through their team sheets it seems like they didn't always have that luxury.

Just want to congratulate Lindfield and Newport on finishing up a tough year. It’s tough when you’re in the bottom and both clubs stuck at it and kept turning up.
Lindfield on the toughest road trip in Subbies almost upset Mountains and the two bonus points have pushed them 39 points clear of Newport.
Impressed to see Newport turning up to play there remaining wash out games mid week. While another club that’s “untouchable” chooses to forfeit.
Hope Subbies factors this in when making a decision about who goes and stays.

Tough to see Hills go out in 1s today, Hills and Beecroft have been the dominant sides all year and no second chance for that domination is a bitter pill. But congrats to Hornsby on peaking at the right time.

Shapes up to be quite a GF day across Divs 2-6.

There are 18 clubs represented out of a possible 37.

Wherever Div 4 is hosted I reckon it's going to be turned up to eleven - Wakehurst v Balmain in both fixtures. :)

UNSW looking for a big day after missing the Club Championship by a narrow margin. They'll want 4 trophies out of Saturday.

Wakehurst hosting Div 4 next week is my understanding.

Beecroft did Hornsby a favour last week in a very physical contest. Hills players doubling up from 2nds in 1sts. Hills never in the game. Hornsby base their game around their forwards. ..If Beecroft matches Hornsby in the forwards, Beecroft backs will be too classy. Will be a very a close GF. Lets hope the GF is decided by the players and not the Ref!.

Div 3 Grand Finals listed as Forshaw in fuse. Quite the bus trip for all involved

Div 6 at Merrylands
Crazy given the teams involved especially when I’d imagine Eric Tweedle and TG are doing nothing next week..
Such a shame the Uni (not the club) let Mac Uni go to Soccer. Multiple grounds allowing for multiple Divisions to be run at the same venue. You could almost run 3/4 divisions at the same place.
I think it would be good to see a stagger to the finish dates next year. Something similar to the below would reduce the pressure on grounds and allow the use of concord for Grandfinals that seems to be the preferred venue and still allow Div 1 to reign on its own special day.
Div 3/Div 5/Div 6
Div 2/Div 4
Div 1

Looking at Eric Tweedle. The venue has 3 fields why are we not looking to utilise those fields for Grandfinals next week? You could host 3 divisions in the one spot, which would reduce admin for Subbies, take the pressure of refs and be appealing for someone to host as it would be a huge crowd.
Even if you’re worried about space you could do 2 divisions there and 2 at Penrith. But for some reason we are headed to Forshaw next week that’s no where near any of the clubs in Div 3. I know you have to have clubs hosting but I’m sure some money over the bar/canteen would appeal to clubs after washouts.
Div 1 & 2- Concord
Div 3 & 4- Eric Tweedle
Div 5 & 6- Penrith
Or Woolhara for those not keen on travelling west.

The 2nd field at Eric Tweedale isnt the biggest and facilities (changing rooms) are very small.
Anyone know why TG Milner isn’t available. I’ve been at a lot of finals throughout the years and I reckon it’s the best.

Did the 2 JJC Divisions not rate a mention? No mention of a venue for either yet, also. Could be a bit of travelling involved for Hornsby supporters heading off to “Farshaw Park” to watch 1’s play after supporting the Nalas, wherever that may be?

Oversight on my part not tipping JJC. Mea culpa
