U18 Academy Games and Australia U18s

Keegan Daly punishing Uys in the scrums and very good around the field. Lemoto doing well, but the 18s outside backs just ripping it up at the moment.

Grover and Simmons taking over in the 2nd half. Simmons hits the line at pace and will be great off the bench against NZ.
18s defence is rock solid. Set piece needs work though.

sorry as I'm sure this has been explained before. Are the Australian schoolboy players selected from boys who are in year 11, and the under 18 team is any club or year 12 boy who is under 18? Assuming year 12 boys are not considered school boys as they are no longer playing schoolboy rugby....
if you get my drift.

Not exactly.
U18 Australia is run by Rugby Australia. Most of these are academy players.

U18 School Boys are run by Australia Schools Rugby Union. Players are selected from the ASRU Championships. Certain schools don’t allow their players to participate in this competition (eg Nudgee College).

Aus schoolboys are any age U18 who are at school still. They are chosen from schools championship. Unfortunately in QLD, most GPS schools do not let their players trial/play due to First XV commitments. The schools U18’s is not considered important, a shame considering the history. The Aus U18’s are any player who is U18, some of the boys finished year 12 as a 17 year old and are playing club. The Aus U18’s is considered the pathway supported by the Super Rugby Teams and Rugby AU.

You could pick another 3 or 4 GPS teams from NSW and QLD that would put a score on Aus schoolboys especially if the League signed players were considered.

Is there any consideration in QLD GPS to shift the start of the season to back half of T2 to match everyone else?

Based on the pretty average performances of their 16s and 18s on the weekend, you would imagine they need to do something.

IMHO it was the opposite way around; ref incorrectly awarded Daly penalties when in fact Uys was dominant…

Yeah neither players were pushing straight at those penalties, but the penalty probably went the wrong way IMO. Out of the scrums in the first fist half, I’d say the Schoolboys LHP was the stronger side.

I thought Lemoto was actually pretty well contained. Don’t know if he’s come back to the pack now that everyone is a bit older or if defence just targeted him. Probably both. Still his potential is crazy. His pilfer kinda makes me think he looks more of a 7 that can play 8. Bit like a Savea or a pollock.

Unfortunately the 6 extra reserves (and hence energy) that the U18s had over the Schools saw the score really blow out towards the end - if there was parity of numbers it may have been a fair bit closer.... shame 6 of the u18s will not play next week as they'll be in no mans land between u18s and schools when they play NZ/Fiji

I feel like at that level, making tackles is given, which made it relatively simple given that if Lemoto got the ball he was going to run it. He's a great talent but now he isn't playing for Scots anymore, he needs to leverage his teammates and options rather than always going himself.
