I noticed on the eastwoods facebook page when they did the pasifica announcement thing that there were comments from the coaches who played a major part in getting that up and going and those comments have now been deleted by eastwood admin. comments on the line of 'stop trying to save your club by now promoted pasifica whilst in the background and behind closed doors your saying you have too many of them and to get rid of them'

Marlins reported a significant increase in income and profit at their AGM last night, together with a highly credentialled new coaching line up to support Sam Lane, starting with Nathan Grey as DoR, and Harry Fehily as defence coach. Together with Harry Jones as colts coach, there is a strong energy around the club's preparations for 2026.

Do all shute shield clubs make a profit each year?
What numbers are we talking about realistically from income in, spend and profits?

its never that much as they generally budget to spend what they expect to recieve -with a small profit of say $50k.
Some clubs have a P&L of around a mil. some less, a couple more.

Gordon 2024: Loss 14k
Norths 2024: Loss 85k
Easts: Profit 125K
Manly : Profit 30k
Warringah: Profit 32k
West Harbour: Profit 61k (2023)

It is really dependant on sponsors then payments to Players and Coaches. Variability in crowds and what not is fairly similar year on year. Couple big benefactors are happy to eat that bit of cost.

Let's say First Grade aren't paying rego

$118K = 236 players which sounds about right - roughly 9 squads of 25-30.

From an outsider perspective, it's hard to support points caps and competitiveness measures when they insulate poorly run clubs from the consequences of their own actions.

Alienating the one demographic still keen on participating in contact sport when there's not only rival shute shield clubs and subbies circling, but also league where they can actually get paid is colossally stupid.
