Queensland Reds 2026

All jokes aside the place is easily the most popular pub before and after any game at Suncorp.

I know they’ve had a post-game (as in QPR) arrangement with GPS for a number of years as well.

The NRL themselves own the old Gambaros (now Beetson Hotel) and I saw an article only a few weeks ago they were pumping millions into it to become QLD largest sports bar and hoping to have it done before Magic Round next year.

Let the NRL affiliates pump coin into them I reckon, the Reds and Wallabies will benefit, but also I can’t help but think these changes are looking ahead to RWC 2027 even though they won’t admit it.

Any bars on Caxton street (and surrounds) have like 30 events a year to fill their boots (Reds, Dolphins, Broncos, SoO, Wallabies and a few concerts). They DGAF who is buying the beers as long as they are.

No they won’t, but it may influence how much they’re open to cater for streaming rugby or other codes matches versus the NRL.

The Caxton for example often have rugby on broadcast when a lot of other pubs don’t even have Stan. If Wallabies are playing the same time as Roosters, they’ll now obviously prioritise the Roosters for screens. That scenario is more what I was referring.

I'd be more worried if it was the NRL itself buying it, but given it's Politis himself I think it's more likely that he just sees it as a good investment. He'll probably enjoy having it for when the Roosters are in Brisbane, but even then I can't see it becoming a Roosters pub over a Broncos one.

Maybe the ARU and QRU should take over Given Terrace and turn it to be the "Union side".

Kettle and Tin has sat dormant for what, 3-4 years now? With all the development going on opposite the Paddo, that area is ripe for some uplift.

That area is quite interesting.

There is a strip of shops on the opposite side to kettle and tin that have seen about 4 different vendors in the last couple of years. I imagine leases there aren’t cheap but it’s that awkward position where in terms of regular foot traffic on game days, not much gets past the Paddo.

Yeap, I knew the Nota team very well and the lease price just kept creeping up squeezing them. The Brewski team said the same thing.

With Anouk changing hands I just don’t have much there pulling me to the area.

The whole Given and Latrobe have had so many small businesses through there for decades that my family joke about the Mafia controlling the rents in the inner west.
