Wallabies 2025

Yeah the depth issue is interesting. Drafting out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strength teams would probably illustrate this. Might have a crack at it with more time.

I wonder if Carter starts Lonergan does too to goal kick? France's Ramos is deadly. We need a decent kicker.
I feel this would be a golden combination. Besides the kicking, Lonergan really gets the pill off the ground quick. Together with the running of Gordon that could be pretty sweet.

With this RA remains in the situation.

Let them walk with the thought “well we can pick them from overseas” and RA is an outsider now wanting help.

Pro sports are player led now. Organisations that adapt will benefit.

I would start treating overseas as our 5th super team.
Obviously, we want to keep the players and develop them ourselves but realistically it's not possible.
I would be letting them go with our blessing and strive to pick them in Aus A teams if they are on the fringe. Hardest thing will be dealing with the clubs about it. I read somewhere that we're doing games against Japan again next year? I would schedule another Aus A game and try and cap some different players. Players like Pakeho, Talataina, Pearce etc should be picked from SRP (Super Rugby Pacific). Young players that have headed over to France but haven't played for the Wallabies should also be invited.

Pacific Nations Cup should be a consistent.

You can get 4-5 games to rotate a squad enough to give caps to good prospects and also let fringe guys prove their point for Wallaby squads.
I think the ship has sailed on getting A sides into the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup). Fiji and Japan are with the Wallabies as Tier 2 sides, and it's a consistent 6 team comp now.

Maybe there are some opportunities for more games in the pacific but it would have to be around the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup) I feel, rather than in it.

Agree with you about the status but I'd have no problem with it being a dog fight every comp. Our players need to be belted around the head and taught some lessons. If you could get it going and include the likes of US, Canada, NZ Moari it would be a great comp.

I'm more talking about how having Fiji and Japan legitimizes the competition as a fully fledged test comp, akin to TRC and 6Ns, albeit on a lower scale, and therefore it wouldn't have the same legitimacy if some of the games aren't test matches. I doubt that is in line with the strategy WR (World Rugby) has with the comp, and so I don't see it as a viable pathway.

Nothing wrong with the boys getting belted, hell - it's what we get in TRC.

At least it can be enjoyable to watch youthful exuberance and potential instead of the established Wallabies get spanked again and again.

Take the best 5 from the JWC, 10 uncapped Super Rugby players who outperformed expectation like Mac Grealy, Joe Brial, Dre Pakeho then 10 Capped Wallabies who aren't in the current top 25. Guys like Matt Phillip, Ben Donaldson etc

Yeah but then the cycle repeats itself.

We see someone carve up in a level below Test rugby, we demand they get a few caps and before long we're shit canning them on forums and demanding the next gen after them are given a run.

The big problem - under the CBA, Australia A player payments and tour allowances are the same as the full Australia test squad - so it costst a fair bit to put the Australia A team out there.

And basically no revenue tied to it

I seem to recall Bob Dwyer with some other backers (...or maybe it wasn't Dwyer...) wanting to buy a French club a while back for something like this.

A warehouse team overseas for Aus players.

That is stupid, they aren't the same.
Anyways, I wouldn't be trying to play several games just 1 against Fiji or Japan each year. Schedule it for when Super Rugby AUS is on to expose more players to that third tier like this year.
We need to do something different moving forward. I like Ghost's idea:

Yeah you're not gonna know if these guys can make it at Wallaby level (you never will until they play 20ih tests) but it at least identifies talent and puts them in another professional setting where the national coach can get an eye on them and give them feedback on how to make the next jump.

Not sure if Edmed was carving them up in Super Rugby!! Played well in this much talked about NPC last year but that is a lower level than Super rugby. I didn't demand he get a few caps. He should not be in the Wallabies.

What’s the update on Gleeson, been out since Joburg but no communication from the team
He was listed as unavailable for this tour and has since joined up with Montpellier but not played yet. I think they were hoping he'd be available for their upcoming game against Perpignan. It's up to them to give (or not give) injury updates now.
