I have always liked Gordon Bray, even as a kiwi, I know it supposedly not thing to like commentators from other countries etc, but I always found him articulate, and pretty knowledgeable on game.

This, but also the danger that it becomes really clear that current and former front rowers would much rather have dominance in a scrum, then a legal scrum.
If you want to understand why the prop is walking back to a 5m lineout shaking his head after a penalty it probably needs to be a ref that explains it

The bigger "danger" (probably not the right word) is pundits not accurately describing what is occurring, or being able to identify who's at fault.
Scrums are arguably the most subjective area of the game to assess, and rarely is there a singular factor or variable that people can point to as the reason one ended the way it did.
People probably are reluctant to touch on it on broadcast because they either don't know what happened, or if they do - they need 5 minutes to explain it.

How'd you find it, did you enjoy it better with them ? Im curious, I dont mind the australian commentators during the game, actually during the game I dont really care who is doing it.. I kinda hate the half time/ extra bits from people, when I dont have the game to distract me..
But as a nuteral, did you prefer nutral commentators? Im not sure I would ever move over.. kinda like people who think my way lol

I did enjoy them, just because I find it easy to listen to neutral commentators, as long as they still seem to have a good knowledge which these fellas seemed to have. Also being a little removed maybe don't go over the top when players do good or bad things or refs make calls?
I don't dislike the Aus commentators by any means, just enjoy ,I think, hearing different voices etc sometimes. I actually enjoy most British and South African commentators too.

Big changes at Nine with Stan operations being merged in with the Nine and 9Now, and a lot of redundancies as a result:
Most of the redundancies are from the FTA side and this seems to be part of an increasing focus on the streaming side of the business with Stan revenue fast approaching equal footing with FTA. That's probably good news for us on balance, but I don't think we'll know for sure for a while.

I sometimes wonder if the ABC have commercial interest in cricket and AFL... Offsiders today followed on from the last weeks which was 100% cricket with honorable mentions to AFLW. Rugby internationals against leading nations, football friendlies, some surfing moments, F! car racing, many Australians playing in top line Basketball teams in the US....
If media reports are anything to go by the NRL is looking for a huge media deal, and with the AFL media deal with 7, more than likely resulting in even more attention by commercial networks to AFL & NRL.
I would love our national broadcaster to at least a mention major international tests. On the central coast AFL has so few players they need to partner with Newcastle for a competition. Yet the CC ABC when thy talk of sport will cover cricket and draft pick considerations for AFL teams. Again remember as I said on the CC AFL numbers are small.

Unfortunately it’s not going to change. Tests on Stan exclusively where Rugby is now down the pecking order as well.

A workmate and I were talking about Offsiders obsession with women's sport and were wondering if it is an ABC policy to try to share coverage equally no matter the quality or popularity.
I am sure if the Wallaroos played today, they would be mentioned but the Wallabies would be overlooked.
They also seem to be unable to find fault in any women's sporting performance, they talked up an exciting 14-11 AFLW game a few weeks ago!

I would say almost certainly. If you’ve got a $50m per annum TV deal then you are going to need to do something special if you aren’t in the national conversation. If you’ve look at traditional media the wallabies haven’t played since TRC.

I’ve never really found it an engaging program. Doesn’t delve into any particular sport in great detail. All surface level stuff. It’s neither been solid analysis or clever humour.
