Barbarian,

Happy to return to the rugby. I do actually know a bit about the selection process, but let's drop it.
It is all water under the bridge.

Scots got a dream run in the selections, it seems obvious to me this was due to there emphatic victory of St josephs in the first round, however for some reason the selectors didnt take into account the riverview vicotry over scots...
In regards to the Australia selections this is what i have to say: Newington 3 players deserved the selection, Kings players Millar, Jed and Boyd deserving, Oconor questionable and wylie very questionable.

Looking ahead to the Scots v Newington game - anyone know whether Clarrie Moore and Dane Atkinson are likely to be fit to play ?

The season finally recommences in a week. Here are the matchups.

Kings vs Joeys
Newington vs Scots
Riverview vs Grammar
Shore bye

I expect the Kings/Joeys game to be no different from when they last met. Kings will win quite comfortably. The Newington/Scots game will be a tight and keenly contested match, though I think New will have the edge over Scots. Riverview/Grammar will be a blowout.

Kings to win by 20, New to win by 2-4, Riverview to win by at least 30.

Any news or views on any of the matches over the weekend. It would seem like Shore had an outstanding game versus Waverly. I wouldn't have expected that sort of score.

Newington vs Trinity - NW won, very close game won by 5 point margin.

I would think that Newington would be a little unhappy about that, as Trinity has not been travelling that well this year: a youngish side with a fair few injuries apparently.

an historical look at this weeks round ...
Grammar v St Ignatius ...
St Ignatius have won all 10 of their 1stXV competition games against Grammar since 2000. They have scored 377 points and conceded 95, for an average decade scoreline of ...
St Ignatius 38 Grammar 10
footnote - One needs gaze back to season 1991 to find Grammars last victory over St Ignatius, a dour 9 points to 3 win at Riverview.

Kings v St Joseph's ...
St Joseph's have won 6 of the previous 10 1st XV competition games against Kings since 2000. Thet have scored 337 points and conceded 203, for an average decade scoreline of,
St Joseph's 34 Kings 20
footnote - Should Kings prevail they will have notched three in a row over Joey's after the Hunters Hill College had dominated mid decade.

Scots v Newington ...
Scots have won 8 of the previous 10 1st XV competition games against Newington since 2000. Thet have scored 249 points and conceded 144, for an average decade scoreline of,
Scots 25 Newington 14
footnote - The past two seasons have provided one point cliff hangers. Scots hung on 22-21 at Stanmore in round 7 of 2009, whilst Newington squeezed out an 18-17 victory at Bellevue Hill the previous winter.

All of which, in relation to the outcome of this Saturdays matches means absolutely diddly squat - 3:15 Saturday is met by a blank canvas onto which the next chapter of GPS rugby history will soon be scribbled

Mate you have to be blind if you think connor and wylie and questionable. Wylie is easily the top #10 in Australia and highly deserves the spot. Connor is the best 7 running on the paddock in Australia at this time and if you think that these boys spots are questionionable you must not be watching the right players

Personally I agree that Connor was fortunate to get the nod. It will be interesting to see how he goes against the Samoans and Fijians as I do think size is against him, he missed a few tackles in the last game and earlier in the week at Ballymore. He can't afford to do that at the top level. Solid but not outstanding in my view. Wylie does the basics well without taking the ball to line very often.

Wylie is just too small too play on such a level, to be honest i feel he's making teams of the back of reputation. He throws loose passes and always seems to go off the field injured. However he does have an extremely good kicking game.
