If they were to put it in America and have the Flight of the Conchords doing advertising for New Zealand it would be LEGENDARY. Like Jermain'es Outback Steakhouse commercials. I can imagine the possibilities of them explaining the game to Americans.

I agree, if its being played to promote the game world wide, then a game in Asia, or the US is the best place for it.
But if it is being done to raise revenue then a game in London is ideal.
Very good point. Or indeed points. Sad when a proud rugby heritage between 2 countries becomes hawked off to the biggest pay-check.

The core issue of course being: this entire 'played in Asia 4th Bledisloe game' was 80% about incremental $s to the NZ and Aus RUs, and 20% about 'growing the game in Asia'. I was told by a senior Aus rugby figure today that the key problem with this year's HKG match is a dramatic decline in Aus-related ticket sales as 'the Wallabies are going off the boil for the fans'. I believe they are concerned about Saturday's gate as well.
What it tells me is that many of the people up high in the ARU, and probably the NZRU also lack imagination. They have a golden goose one year - the 4th Bled - and they keep trying to wring every golden egg out of it, and miss the point at which the eggs go rotten.
I understand the financial aspect to running the show, but making all the decisions on dollar-value will eventually fail. Half-baked Tests at Homebush; lack of consideration to an occasional arvo Test maybe at the SFS and pack the place, rather than 35,000 out west; and so on.

I could not agree more! This topic - as you so rightly raise it above - deserves much airing and debate. There could be many more 'enduring' and imaginative and fresh ways to monetise the Wallaby playing group/brand.
When I said half-baked Tests I was not referring to the Bledisloe, more the pre-3N ones.

TOCC, really hope you're right, but web shows all tickets/all categories very available except couples and more in platinum...maybe that just reflects the 20,000 or so you infer are not yet sold...
