Covers just about everything I reckon! Those teams are just my best guesses, feel free to jump in and correct them. Tahs should have too much class here, really worried about Schmoo and Beale running down (L) Mitchell's wing like Guildford and Maitland did in the trial. Will probably be quite tough and scrappy, especially if the expected weather holds. Tahs by 12.

A few questions:

  • Is Frier actually likely to play? If he does it'll be awesome but he sure would be going into it cold.
  • You think Betham and Blake will be in the match 22? I mean they were involved with the Rebels A side which may suggest otherwise, but maybe that was just to get them a run.

The Tahs team looks right, I reckon Kepu will start over Robinson however. Turner's in doubt too, Pakalani would be the replacement.

I see this game being quite close early on and the Tahs pulling away in the last 20. Tahs by 12.

Ash, I'd say it's more likely Rooney hasn't been considered. He did play in the first warm-up game, but I don't think he's been used since.

On Freir, more wishful thinking than anything else, I think I read somewhere he'd be fit to go though. Betham should be starting let alone in the 22, out of sight better than Mitchell. Neither he, nor Blake, had a whole lot of time in the warm-up matches - I'd say that's why they were playing in the A's. Blake is a nice impact player to have, good cult figure as well. For better or worse, the Rebels will need a couple of them - Vuna is looking like one already, I'd say Blake could well be the other.

Well done Dumbledore; almost as good as your namesake would have done. Don't know about Saffy and a few other Rebels but I can't get a feel for the team as I haven't seen them trial. No doubt most of us are waiting to see their first game to form an opinion of who belongs in Super Rugby as starters and who doesn't.

I don't know that Timani, not a Super Rugby contracted player, will be the reserve lock but he can cover 6 also; so maybe you will be right. If he is chosen ahead of O'Connor (based on his form for the Tahs Twos in Nowra) it will be a mini-statement by Hickey of belief in attacking play, because Mumm could always move to 6 if O'Connor came from the bench.

Agree with McKibbin ahead of Holmes: he has been in good trial form and is now a fully contracted player.

I reckon Mckibbin deserves a crack too, hes dominated in both qld and now nsw club rugby and never did the reds any shame in his few outings.

However rebels, what about gerrad? Not rate him at all? He is an ex-wallaby with an awesome boot, despite his lack of pace id have him on the wing. Also no way id have Horne on the bench for cross and carter unless theres something i dont know, ive read articles saying hes ready to rumble. Id probabaly go cross over carter for inside center, but wouldnt be suprised if carter gets the 1st shot due to his history with the combinations.

I hope the scoreboard has room for 3 figures.
We'll give the record books a nudge.

What's the news on Rooney? Still injured or not considered?

He was running around on Sunday at the open training session with a truck load of tape on his left calf. I got there a bit late so wasn't sure if he was involved in the light contact practice match, but after that while all the other backs were practicing kicking he was running big squares on the field (22 to goal line, touch line to touch line), which looked to me like some sort of fitness test. He was also doing some work under high balls. He looked to be moving pretty well, but none of it was at full tilt so not to sure.

I predict an upset.

It's the year of the rabbit and it's meant to be full of surprises.

Melbourne Bolsheviks by 3.

Dumbledore, I see you've changed the Waratah player names for posting on here. ;)

:lmao: Inspiration only, inspiration only. Had to restrain myself from from working OFFICIAL in there somewhere.

Blue, I'd love to see it happen, it would just be... huge. One of the biggest upsets ever in Super Rugby, the support it could generate for the Rebels would be massive. Love the Bolsheviks by the way!

I doubt that Hone would start off the bench, it looks like we have very little wing cover.
