They beat them comprehensively in 2010 with a similar backline. The forwards aren't as powerful now that Bermingham/ Carpenter (Both QLD 1 reps) have moved on but they're still a decent pack. Should be a good match.

He played Prop. Year 11 Al Harper played at 2, a solid performance. The loss of Sam Greene at fullback is a big blow for BGS.

id say ipswich by 12 they get there big no 8 back this week which makes there forward pack stronger and faster.

The usual loose head prop was being rested because of a shoulder injury and they wanted to test Harper out in 1st's.

After last weeks performance against BSHS and their performance two weeks ago against Nudgee, are Churchie looking like the team to beat this competition year? Also, thoughts on the top four after Churchie, Ipswich and BGS (only played one game) are the only undefeated teams left in the competition.

Churchie have only played BSHS in a trial, which they lost. Might be to too early yet but I would have IGS as favorites at this stage.

Agreed IGS as favourites. very good forward pack which dominates lineouts and scrums meaning opposition back pieces are rare. and a fast and potent back line finishes off the job. BGS will be a test this week as it usually is not a favoured ground to play at.

Well it wasn't a tight one ....but improvement by GT.
Forwards matched up well but TGS centers tore them apart in the second half with some clever play on the fringes.
Down 17-19 into the second half and GT had their opportunities but they are learning in full glare of the proper GPS competition and you can see the need for another 3 trials. They have to revisit their First XV pre-season program, not scholarship.
I suspect GT probably don't have a win in them this season but every school goes through that process. It is a character building year !LOL!
2'nds got well beaten. 16A's same. No real depth, No home fields to train on, play on. They are doing the best they can.

I won't get the chance to see GT for a few weeks, but I saw them twice last year and they looked very good with a well drilled defense and forward unit, as well as a patient attack that wore teams down. They also had no scholarships then and came 4th or 5th, so I agree there must be a problem with the program this year. I spoke to the TSS coaches and they were very impressed with GT in '10 and I heard amazing stories about the respect they won vs BSHS despite going down by a bit. Surely, it hasn't gone all pear shaped so quickly. With a few 2nd year players and the defensive displays (technically and as a unit) they showed last year, how can they have gone off the boil so quickly?

Could the explanation for GT come down to the fact that there is a new coach there (I understand that it is the Lauries coach from last year) - perhaps players and coach just haven't gelled yet. Scary thing for them is that BBC this week may be their last chance for a win because they have all of the heavyweights after that.
In fairness to GT in the first round, this looks like a gun IGS team this year who now look like the favourites. The best thing about them is that they play like a team rather than relying on the brilliance of individuals. Hope they keep it up

My understanding is that they have the same coach as they have had for the previous 2 years. This year has been a concern for some time as it has been noted that they are not a strong grade so they have a few players from U16 playing up (6 from what I have been told). I'm not sure if this is a great thing as it takes away from the U16 teams as they are missing their top 6 players and it doesn't give the boys playing 1st XV a great experience for the following year as they are being touched up by the other teams.
I hope that they get things together for the rest of the year. Scholarships are not the answer they have to work hard as a unit and get their systems sorted out. It would be great if they could manage a win this year but that may be pushing it at this rate.
