Of my original post, exactly how much of it did you actually read?

A first xv game goes for 70 minutes, after 60 minutes it was level on the scoreboard. Ashgrove put 29 points on SLC in the last 10 minutes unless the rugby points system has changed recently. If Padua and Eddies can play for the full 70 they have a chance against Ashgrove. I however don't believe Eddies can and I haven't seen Padua play at all.

Sorry latho, wasn't having a go at you.

I haven't seen any of these teams play, just having a bit of fun, but is there now an electric clock at Runcorn?

Just under 40 years since my first game at Runcorn, still remember well the kikuyu grass and the red dirt.

The shame about AIC rugby is that it seems like the standard seems to have dropped a helluva lot over the past 10 years or so - it was only in 1998 (well after my time) that Ash had 5 in the Australian Schools touring side and 4 in the Test XV -couldn't possibly happen again by the looks of things, and I can only assume it's because the likes of Nudgee grab blokes who would normally end up at Ash and other AIC schools, as well as the more "professional" training/weights programs at the GPS schools. Why would AIC schools recruit players or train obsessively when winning the comp will make no difference to enrolments or carry any great prestige?

Anyway, as long as the boys playing are enjoying it, we'll still see some good footballers coming out of the AIC comp every year.

No clock at Runcorn.
I don't feel the standard has dropped.
Back in the 80's we were putting 50 on the likes of St Pauls, De La Salle, Rosa, St Pats and Peters in the then TAS Comp.
The AIC Comp sees alot more even contest.
St Pats have moved forward in leaps since Mick Carroll (Lauries Old Boy and Souths Legend)took over as Principal.
I have boys at Nudgee and can tell you this grabbing of Ashgrove boys to fill their top sides or 1sts is a nonsense.

What is with that 'crap' iron on College Crest at Lauries ?
C'mon Mr McDonald at least have it embroided for the boys.

About my reference to Nudgee, I was not referring to NC or anyone else actively poaching players (although this may well go on), just a perception that good young rugby players may now be deciding (understandably) to head to one of the stronger GPS schools.

The AIC comp certainly seems to be more even than the old TAS, but a look at school rep, Reds and Wallaby sides clearly reveals that the top shelf talent is no longer there, or at the very least not in the same numbers.

By the way Marks, I assume you are not suggesting that Nudgee's rugby strength is built on anything other than scholarships etc - we all know what happened for that very brief period when they stopped buying players.

Yes....they offer scholarships...but to say the strength in Rugby is built on it is a common miss informed comment from others outside the school.
I won't waffe on about the culture, tradition etc at Nudgee but its certainly something I never experience at SLC to the depth in which it has a positive effect on my boys (Not Scholarships) and for that matter the parents/guardians.

Padua Vs. Lauries at Suncorp before the reds game, should be a good game with Padua 4 from 4 and a lauries side who are 1 from 4 but have been unlucky in recent games. Any thoughts and predictions on who will win?

haven't seen Lauries this season so can't comment on them. But have seen Padua and they are the REAL DEAL. Big and Tough, their 12 really impresses, runs hard and straight like all good 12's should. They also have some forwards who know who to play Union unlike past Padua Teams. also really impress by one of thier locks, very good at the restarts.
big call but I would say Padua will knock off Ash in the last round to take out the Premiership.

As a Paduan Old Boy, I am very proud of this years team and do believe they have what it takes to beat the "benchmark" of aic in ashgrove. However there are still 3 rounds to go and anything could happen. Hopefully Padua shows the suncorp crowd this weekend that they are progressing higher as a rugby school against a traditional rugby school in lauries. Will be another great weekend of rugby.

That's a great win for Eddies. If Padua got up over Lauries that would place them on top with Eddies and Ashgrove second? I heard the Peters v Villa score was 23-15. Very disappointing loss for Villa, their chances for a win now would be very slim with Ashgrove and Pats to follow.

Good win for St Peters, glad to finally see them in the winners circle. Looks like Marist's poor backline has finally been punished. Have been saying all season that centre pairing isn't up to it, looks like Eddies were the team to capatilise.

Great chance for the first ever Eddies premiership (and another Ashgrove "phobia" put to death) - so we now have Eddies , Ash and Padua all with a loss - the last round with Ash v Padua is now critical

Padua hasn't loss yet, they remain on top after eddies crashing marist. Padua won a magnificent game at suncorp literally minutes before full time. Such an exciting game.

Lauries have held leads or at least been even with every opponent coming in to the last 20 mins of every game. They fail to lift, but not because they are not trying. They lose intensity at the ball contest, the support numbers at the breakdown dry up, defensive line speed slows, kick chase is slow, and mistakes like poor lineout execution and poor decisions creep in. These are all signs of fatigue, and indicate a comparative lack of fitness with the other AIC schools. We can feel sorry or talk about bad luck, but hopefully (for them) a lesson has been learnt this season about the importance of either a) selecting fit people or b) working harder in the pre season.
