Be alright if they let Canberra Marist and St Edmunds back in. It'd do wonders for rugby at Eddies. It's gone downhill bad since they were kicked out for being too good.

"Waratah" Shield = NSW - maybe Eddies could get that border moved a km or 2 or open up a Queanbeyan campus?

If Eddies had not decided to buy their sides in the late 90's and 2000's then the Canberra sides would still get a crack. Eddies have been pegged back to what they were pre those days that all empire.

There were plenty that given scholarships to attend. I have been told by fellas that were given them they were. The first one was a fella named Adam Mitchell in 1996. He openly told people he had half his fees paid for. Why deny it when it was so obvious?

Perhaps changes were made before/during my time there?

I can't comment on the time before 2001, as I wasn't at the school. I'm just going of recent history.

There was a strong suggestion that Eddies had some agenda to join either the GPS or ISA in Sydney to get more regular competition. Joeys saw an end to that idea when they hammered eddies I think in about 06. The old ASC really was a great comp that saw some grat battles between your old school and mine as well as with the other schools like Dara, Grammar and Pats. It's all gone now and will never be them same again....its a real shame.

Deleted because scholarships should be discussed in the sticky and because Beale was not selected in the indigenous programme by Joeys anyway.

I see from thye draw that all first round matches of the Shield and the gala days for teh Waratah Cup had to be completed before 13 May. Does anyone have any results from tehse matches?

Had a look at the draw on the NSW Schools website and it seems to me that Newington College and Knox Grammar School have the easiest draw to the semi finals. They do not have to face a Sports High in the Quarter finals as they face the finalists of the Waratah Cup (ie for schools without a recognised rugby programme). If you discount Sydney Boys High, Newington's draw looks particularly favourable as they do not have to face a GPS, CAS or ISA opponent before the semis. Is there a seeding system for the draw?

From looking at the draw potential Round 3 matches are Auggies v Oakhill, Newington v matraville, Kings v Farrer Agricultural and Knox v Stannies.

The winner of Auggies v Oakhill will play the #2 Sports High School (Westfield?), the winner of the Newington game will play the Cup Winner, the winner of the Kings-Farrer game will play the #1 sports high school (Hills?) and the winner of the Knox game will play the cup runner up

Is there a link to the draw for the next round, updated every week? If not: how does one know who is playing whom, and when?

Thanks but I've seen that before but it doesn't have the draw, let alone one updated after every round.

The only draw that I have seen is in this document at page 6. I am unaware of any site or person that updates any results in this competition. According to the rules of the Shield Round 1 was to have been completed by May 13 and round 2 by June 22.

The Sports High schools play in a round robin but there is no specific dates for this. i assume they must complete the round robin by 5 August as this is when the quarter finals are. The Waratah cup zone gala days had to be completed by 13 May. There are 16 zones and the various zone winners will play off against other zone winners until there is just 2 left. I assume this Waratah Cup must also be completed by 13 August.

Again I say I cannot find any place to get the results of any Waratah Shield or Cup games. From what I know St Augustines are through to the third round after Normanhurst forfeited to them, Epping Boys I think are to play Oakhill (Oakhill beat St Andrews in ISA and I think in the past this has doubled as a Shield game), randwick Boys beat Sydney High.

Strange to enter then forfeit?

Go to the website and look in resources

Thanks ILMF - I've just realised that The Chosen gave me this info on the last page and no doubt I didn't find the info then either and gave up. I forget..

So the top two of five Sports High Schools go through to the Q/Fs as do the winners and runner up of the Waratah Cup which is what? Oops, I see on page 1 of this thread that this is a comp for schools that don't have a rugby programme; so I wonder how they can have an actual team. Anybody know?

Also, anybody know why Mark Gerrard's old school, Narrabeen Sports High School, is not one of the Sports High Schools competing?

It's quite interesting how they do it. Saw a semi and the final last year. Good matches, but I had no clue of how the teams emerged. Now I know. Thanks.

The format this year is completely new. Don't know how they did it previously. In the past cHS organised it this year NSW schools have taken over organising it
