I guess NSW might as well not turn up then Light. Can you tell me where the NSW team is lacking compared to Qld as I believe the two NSW sides will go close to playing the final. Saw some of the Qld players last year and I believe that NSW is stonger in their back row than Qld and that this year the back three for the 1's is stronger than the back three for Qld
I have heard that the selection for OZ schools is being done in two parts this year. First, after the Nationals OZ Schools and OZ A's will be selected to play English Schools (a game each OZ A on the Wednesday and OZ Schools on the Sunday). After these games 44 players will be selected to play a trial in early September to pick the OZ A's and Schools 1st XV to play NZ schools in early October

I would suggest that the players I have mentioned in my above post will be the difference. The NSW side is always strong, and I believe that to be no different this year, I just see a QLD I side that is stronger than it has been in the last 3-4 years. Qld I or II has won the last 5 or so national titles on the trot, IMO this years side is stronger than previous years, primarily due to the continual development of Aus School players such as Ngauamo and Browning. This is no disrespect for the NSW side, I think they will have a number of players chosen for Oz schools, I just think the overall competition will be won by a QLD team like it has done for the last umpteen years.
Foward pack's will be close IMO. QLD I boasts the likes of Browning (Aus Schools 2010), Ngauamo (Aus Schools 2010), Paraka (QLD 1 2010), Satui (QLD 1 2010), Timu (QLD 1 2010), Swann (QLD 2 2010). And the backline contains Davies (Aus Schools 2010), F'Sautia (Aus Schools 2010), Meehan (QLD 1 2010), Goodrich (QLD 2 2010). Keep in mind QLD 2 won the comp last year.

And so they have.
I saw Satui at the U/16s last year. I can't remember him as much as I can Timu but I had this two word note about him:"Brown Gill." That is praise.
Ignoring other 7s around the country because I don't know them, he will have a good battle with the NSW 7s Broome, who has the worm of madness in his clay and a crazy glint in his eye, like a suicide bomber about to push the button. There's not much of him, and so I doubt if he will make his mark as a senior player, but he is remarkably strong over the ball at the schools level, and he has a great nose of where to be to link and to make the key tackle.
He is a personal favourite of mine but his on the edge style of play may not be what the Oz selectors are looking for. Another favourite of mine is 6. Dempsey who looks like Schalk Burger playing sometimes. He is long odds to make the Oz Schools Ones as he is in the NSW Twos and still has a year to go at school, but it wouldn't surprise me if he made the Oz Schools Twos.
I haven't heard that before but it would be ideal from a rugby point of view. It's extraordinary that they would have time to do that. All states are different but the NSW lads have their HSC exams coming up at that time and I wonder if it will be the right thing for the lads.
Still, every 2nd year they go on tour around that time; so maybe it's OK. Seeing Oz Schools Is and IIs play in the past it has been apparent that some chaps were not quite of Ones quality and other in the Twos were. A hard edge trial would be great. I hope that it's in Sydney.

Light I agree that the Qld sides will be strong and hard to beat. There are a lot of players coming back from last year so they have that experience. However, some of these players did not perform last year. Most of the NSW players have had experience at Nationals, either senior or u/16 (where NSW has been very dominant). In the 1's Alatoa (NSW1 2010), dombkins (OZ A 2010), Broome (NSW 1 2010) and Wells (Oz Schools 2010)are back. Lawley and Calcagano have state representation in the past at 16 and 17 level. The backs will have Wessels (OZ A 2010) to direct things and players such as Northam who already playing senior first grade colts involved. The strength of the backs can be seen when looking at who is on the bench - Purcell (NSW 1 2010) and Roods (NSW II 2010). Keep an eye out for Leao from the bench - he will make a difference when he comes on

If fit and playing at full strength then this could tip the balance Qld's way, but if they aren't 100% then NSW may have the edge.
However Qld 1 must first get past NSW II. This side is full of outstanding younger players with Kovacic, Dempsey and Walters playing outstanding at the trials and going very close to gaining selection in the 1's. In the backs Merriman at half and Le Lievre were also considered to be unlucky not to in the 1's. Trust me these players will all be out to prove a point and will be hard to beat. Again the bench is strong

I look forward to some good and honest interstate rivalry/banter over the week (after all Qld will win the Origin series and the Super Rugby - so NSW will hopefully prevent the clean sweep)

UJ Seutini. he's got it all. silky passing skills, big, strong runner, vision, kicks well. the other 10's aren't even in the same class. Recovering from pre season match broken leg. you'll see him playing for a franchise soon, for sure.......

Jim Stewart should be picked for the Australian schoolboys. Incredibly strong and fast, good defender. Tore joeys apart
The selectors will have to see him in the National Championships first. He certainly had a good U/16 tournament for NSW Schools last year, albeit as a 13, and, yes, he did rip Joeys a new one recently, but he wouldn't be the Lone Ranger this year.
He had a terrific game for GPS v. CAS at Knox when he looked like Tim Horan at that level, and he didn't disappoint in the much tighter 2nd GPS match v. CHS. He'd be a good contender, that's for sure and he looks like a big match player.
I wish I could be up there to watch the Championships to see him and other schools stars in action.

I know it's a big call, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sam Greene (QLD1 Bench) makes the premier squad. He goes to the same school as Grant Davies, and are both playing exceptional rugby, with Sam Greene performing remarkably in Davies' injury-forced absences. He can play either Fullback or Flyhalf, can kick goals from any distance and any position on the park and is one of the most dedicated players I've seen. A darkhorse, but I see him as a genuine contender.

Yeah that is a big call, undoubtedly he has the best skill set in a schoolboy arena, and kicking game is world class to say the least. However he lacks the strike power and finishing ability selectors look at when selecting from an abundance of talent. However if they were looking for a second ball player in the back line then i would suggest he may be considered. At this stage though he's picked only as the 3rd choice fullback so chances are slim. However with the old 1 coach attending the same school he may see a decent amount of game time, then if he's good enough, he's good enough.
