Two disappointing results in a row for Churchie. Must seriously be reconsidering their options, no way in my mind they are still favourites.

be interesting to see where the tries were scored and how ipswich / bgs played in comparison with last weeks games. at the moment this furthers confusion in regards to the much debated discussion of "who will come where?" this year. BASED ON TRIALS it apparently looks like:

1. Nudgee/TSS
3. ACGS
4. Grammar
5. IGS/GT
7. BBC
9. BSHS

that doesn't taken into account TGS but I'm not sure enough of there results to officiate a comment, though i predict around that area with gregory terrace and ippy grammar.

There are somethings in those standing I would agree with, and others that surprise me a lot. It will be interesting to see how the season pans out.

Not much in Terrace's 2pt win. A game of two halves. Considering who wasn't playing for BBC (minus Hood, Sala and Jnr's sent off .after being eye gauged??): in a shortened first half BBC looked the stronger side to me- they looked like they would run away with it.

Sala's absence didn't impact that result, Bronson and James Stewart were more than capable of the battle up front. Who will hood take out of the team? Ned Heathcote's work at the breakdown today was done with the some of the most phenomenal physicality I've ever seen, and his ball running is pretty good too. Apart from Junior, certainly no massive gaps left in that team.

Sabanator, I played Harlow in a bit of club rugby this year and as the team explained to me he was Queensland 2, i laughed. Even at club level he was shut down, destroyed and really no stand out player what so ever. I find him to be one of the most over rated players in the competition and his scruming abilites were woeful.

I think match of the week will be a tough BGS v IGS. Cousins Lakem and Latham love a good battle against each other. Both teams are so evenly matched, scrums will be ruthless and the playmakers and centres both on both sides can read the game excelently. Tough game but i'd tip IGS by a try.

Churchie vs South port will be an interesting one but after the narrow win to terrace, i think churchie will want to prove to everyone the possible wrecking forve this year. TSS forwards will be dominant but i think churchie might be able to start to gel as a team and pull this one through. acgs by two tries.

BBC v Terrace. I'd have to say this will also be a tough one. With both teams having narrow loses in the past week, the mental state of the players will be revengful and rutheless. BBC by the sounds of it are having team bonding issues but i still belive they will make terrace mulch on the footy field. The backs will definately be a big party of this. It will be a close start but BBC by two tries.

Toowoomba did well against Sunnybank. Moments of brilliance there for TG. TG ranaway with the score, no-one I knew kept count. I think they finished up 4 tries ahead. But SB scored some enthralling tries that opened TG up, spilt through and carved down the spine. This occurred too many times to say that TG can't be beaten easily. But its only pre-season, so anyones guess would hold credibility at this early stage. A scratch team Sunnybank with a conglomerate of players with no real mutual dynamic were out for the fun of it, exposed some flaws in the TG game both in the backs and forwards. TG needs to be consistant in their defensive approach. At times TG looked like a well oiled machine, and then ... BAM ... machine breakdown, and they were all over the place scrambling clumsily to regain cohesion. Several brilliant tries against resulted. Maybe TG players became complacent in the point scoring fest (as you do) who knows. Physically TG looked the part but they really looked out of place among the plethora of nationalities in a multicultural environment that is Sunnybank Rugby Club. Way to go TG. Great to see one of the GPS teams in the local fare. Spectators who have never seen a GPS game (or team for that matter) were thrilled to see why the GPS is so highly regarded and visiting in their own background. It was a privilidge. Thankyou TG.

Interesting, who looked better in the forwards?

The backs were quite even but TSS were definetly the better team in the forwards, i thought the Churchie pack lacked size aside from their 7,8, and one of the 2nd rowers. TSS size advantage was definetly a factor with them throwing the ACGS forwards around at the breakdown

Great Post, Good to see somebody give feedback instead of cricticise and really appreciate good rugby and the great standard of GPS competition , Sunnybank are no pushovers. Im sure it was a great game.

Before the sun fades away on the last weekend. I have to say that BSHS in its drumming by NC in the trial last week was not completely bad for SH. Six yr 11's took the field whilst tried and tested players were dropped for the exercise. Probably a unnecessary exercise if you're looking for your best 15 with limited outings before the season proper. SH did score some good tries off the back of promising forward play and almost a third. Their forwards displayed some aggressive progress packed with a small core of 3 or 4 yr12's that consistently displayed sound skills to the detriment of the NC pack runners, who were forced to run wide into the SH backs, easy pickings for seasoned runners. SH's hapless defense in the backs was hindered by fundamental errors like failing to tackle around the legs and stop the run and momentum. Of course NC class in the backs goes without saying. Some good stuff went on there, beautiful to watch.

Its worth mentioning however that NC tries came through the SH backs and not the SH forwards until fatique and demoralisation set in. Three tries in the dying minutes of the game will do nothing to convince any opposition that they have anything to fear from BSHS this year. More importantly the loss will do nothing to inspire SH players to aspire to greater heights. But this shouldnt be confused with a prevailing view that BSHS doesn't have the players. They do. Some very good tried and tested palyers of quality and sound skill. At least for this year. I can't speak for 2013.

Several factors are involved here. State High has the players to combine a formidable 15 this year make no mistake. Without mentioning names, several have achieved rugby at Qld level in past years and again this year. In the last 3 years SH has retained enough players to maintain a high standard, and last years result should not even be considered a lowly achievement and we all know where they were there. So whats up with BSHS? If you have the players then whats the difference when it comes to performance? Recruitment issues aside.

In a word 'morale'; Totalitarianism or egalitarianism are phrases not taught on the rugby pitch by a coaching regime. A vicarious system of punishment is neither understood by those who are just used to playing the game at a hard and fast pace. Players don't differentiate they just react. The environment has not suited all players of a high standard, looking for honours denied them in previous years in this their last year of High School and consequently resignations and re-signings with other schools have been the prefered option for some. Having played second string to the BSHS dream-team for 3 years, the feeling that this is their time now, has not been afforded them. Talent skill and ability appears to have been sacrificed for attitude, regardless of pultry indiscretions. What is needed here is morale. If BSHS is to show spirit this year in the score line they will have to deal with their demons inbetween games between the people that matter. If nothing progresses there? . the poisoned chalice is handed down for another year.

However a great loss it has been to SH 1st 15, there are many remaining that can fill the bill. Big shoes to step up to for some, already there for others. The hope is that talent skill and proven ability is not sacrificed for attitude to the point that less equipped players are fielded just to prove a point. The top ranked BSHS players (again I'm not naming them) some would describe as inconspicuous in the GPS arena, but well lauded in the grade game at all levels. For whatever reason they may not be household GPS names belies the presence they make against the names that are, in the GPS round robins. Their stats are high, the work rate is exceptional . they just don't have trumpets blowing to announce their presence, but they do a great job. They probably need more recognition at the local level for what they do, for it will inspire more from them during the season.

If BSHS are to do better this year, the fundamentals need to be addressed. The forwards will only be able to do so much if the backs cannot match them for skill and work rate. SH had a good forward platform to set up their backs, but inexperience, untried and untested players failed to utilise the feed in the trial game. This should not be viewed as the mainstay or the execution for an entire season, for things can surely change from game one (hopefully) if they're players are in a good head space at seasons start. Lets hope they are. And lets hope they get their opportunities.

Very well said, I've heard from parents of State Highs younger players that their coach is doing them no favours, inexperienced with one of the poorest coaching records
- This is good news for us BBC boys, however I also hope state high can fix the problem.

BBC injured/rested: Sala and Hood

GT injured/rested: Power, Siteleni, Dalgleish, Wilson

after the first half Yes BBC was the better side but rugby is a long game and in the end the better side came out on top

was probably one of the dirtiest games I've seen but that's the part of rugby I guess

Not surprised with any of the results on the weekend.

From what I gathered from the forum, terrace had some attacking flare despite lacking dagleish. Obviously defense was a bit of a problem. They must have struggled controlling those fiery bbc backs. Solid result for gt so should build some confidence for there next trial against nudgie.


TSS vs acgs doesn't surprise be at all. Acgs are really lacking cohesiveness and just simply are not playing to their full potential. Obviously TSS took a lot away from the last few weeks and are using their primary assets( enormous forward pack) to their advantage.

Does anyone know how the TSS backs shaped up against churches?

After reading some of the 'garbage' posted on this page by Gregory Terrace boys and the language displayed from the 'Brave Game' Facebook page, the Terrace boys should be ashamed.

Although i didn't see the full game today, BGS back row was outstanding with Saunders and Wenck in every ruck. The IGS pack although contains size, lacks technique. Pleash and Preene were standouts if i have my numbers right, while the prop who would be one of the biggest players in the GPS competition was useless at scrum time and clearly didn't suit the position. It should also be noticed the boys from Spring Hill's star player Lahkem Aioni was still 'injured'. Overall opinions were that BGS will be competitive this year and could very much push for a top 4 position, while IGS has a few big time players, but play as individuals not a team

Today BBC were sharp in attack, they have dangerous players all around the park and Conrad Quick (12) Tom Banks (15) Josh Bowen (10) and Junior Fakaosilea (8) all showed great ball carry skills numerous times. however as mentioned in my previous post they really struggle in their defence, they were exploited badly on numerous occasions only for terrace to make unforced errors, whether they win or lose i can see a lot of high scores on the way for the BBC games. On the flip side Terrace have plenty of starch in their defence with some very good tacklers and a fit, mobile and determined pack, however the team struggle to finish with poor skills out wide and no genuine try scorers, can see some very low scoring grinding games for Terrace ahead. On a whole the score pretty fairly depicted the match and neither side will bother NC for the title, (for the record the fight was very average) The teams i am keen to hear more about are BGS and TGS.... they are very much flying under the radar at the moment, both were choca block full of yr 11 players last year and with former professional coaching staffs at both schools i imagine they will cause more than a few boil overs this year. anyone have any solid info from the BGS trial?

I agree that the grammar team is quite superb this year and has some very good players they could definitely finish as high as 3 but I don't see them falling lower than 6. a lack of depth compared to other teams however results in if injuries do occur to some key roles such as Greene, Birch or Cornelson there will be some very low quality players ending up in that team but still there full string team is excellent

From what i have heard there coach Mark Stevenson is one of the worst coaches in the GPS. Why would BBC hire him if he coached Terrace to a season last year that didn't consist of a win?
