Heard View will be resting there 'big 3'. 16s Evan Prichard and Jack Bowditch are two of the replacements. Hope for Evans sake there arent too many scrums, especially if manbear-lees is not being rested. New tip - Newington by 20

48-5 to Kings. You could say that about most teams this year. Kings were the better team, but did play most of the 1st half v 14 and most of the second half v 13. Probably should've won by more

Back to Rugby, I enjoy reading the opinions of the people on here as everyone seems to know what they are talking about. Shore line-up looks good for this weekend. I've been told in passing (probably unreliably, the bloke I speak to is generally full of B.S but sometimes he gets it right) that their LHP's injury is not as bad as previously reported on here (double dislocation) and that the lad could be back by the first round. Sorry, I don't know his name???????

Other than the Kings Oz Schools boys being rested this weekend does anyone know if other schools are following suit? You'd think it would be wise to rest players after a heavy roster of Rugby over the break.

Hopefully we will see a competitive GPS season with all the lads fighting fit.

Kings were at full strength, although Jones had a heavily strapped knee. There was a minutes silence followed by a lone piper's lament. Very moving and a few onions peeled in the crowd.

I dont understand this.
I agree some allowance has to be made for the fact of sendoffs/binnings, remembering that Kings played with 14 for 10. The Scots scrum was dominant even with the reduced numbers - I thought the piggies were their weakness from what I had read on here.
The impressive thing to me was that the Scots backs have a lot of rep talent and yet man on man the kings blokes beat them every time. Thought the Kings 12 looked good.

Does anybody know the Newington v Riverview result it was so very cold at Stanmore that me and several friends we home early much to our regret. It was that or catach a chil.

What I meant was that most teams are so close that you could argue that whoever beats New, or whoever beats View, or whoever beats Joeys will win. There is no standout team. with the exception of Grammar and High every team is capable of beating another on the day

It is still early days but with a week to go for before the start of the GPS season we now have good indication of the respective teams concerning their chances. Newington 's results for both 1st and 2nds are very good with one loss to Scots( very close aided by 2 missed penalties in front or not taken) and the 2nds a first up lost to Kings. Kings appear to have improved out of sight when they first played Newington in the first trial. Their 16A's were undefeated last year are their firsts heavily based on this team. Equally Newington have a significant number of year 11 players. Could these teams continue to evolve as they gain experince. I now feel that Scots despite an excellent backline don't have the pack to stamp their authority on this year. Equally, Shore have a well drilled forward pack that can upset any opposition,but lack the pace and style to produce a GPS winning backline. Also they simply kick the ball away in a 9/10 rugby style, that opion is based on their Newington game. Riverview I missed the game and cannot do justice to their team. Finally, Joeys who were rated highly early in the season based on 9 members of last year 1st returning have had defeats to New and Kings and may not meet the expectations of earlier predictions.

Personally, I now believe the competition will be decided at Kings in round 3 as it was in 2010. Can Newington repeat that achievement or will Kings obtain their revenge. Either way it is still an interesting season with possibilities of upsets

Kings were missing their captain Harry Randall. Scot's were missing Jim Stewart.

The scrums competed as even numbers despite both Crossley and Kamp being sent off. When Crossley was sent off in the first half Kings no 8 Moylan dropped off the scrum at the contest. When Kamp was sent off Kings no 6 Camp dropped off the scrum. Kings also won two tight heads in the second half in even numbered contests. Towards the end of the game Scots dropped off a flanker and Kings did likewise leaving several 5 man scrum contests.

Were these send offs or sin-bins? What were they marched for?

Kings have a touch greater rep talent in the backs than Scots with everyone of their backs being involved in the Oz Schools Championships. Ferris, Foketi and Jones also played for Oz Schools.

You are right about Kings 12 Will Davies - he had an excellent game both in attack and defence and easily ran around Kellaway to score. Harry Jones didn't see a lot of ball but was dangerous every time he touched it and left Kellaway grasping at thin air went he stepped him one on one to score. To be fair to Kellaway he was often left alone facing a heap of Kings traffic as their backs ran riot and he was Scots most dangerous attacking player - would love to see him go looking for the ball a bit more.
