i will 'literally' have to hahaha
Look like you guys must have sorted it out in the car park. Very good. After a brief scan, I think the issue is with the Nationals is where it's held. If it's in WA then you get less East coast schools and visa versa. When do we think all GPS events should be held at SiRC? It's really the only way to judge the performance of crews. A regatta like the Riverview Gold Cup is just a picnic regatta, it's crooked, subject to tides, 1400m and there's hard anti-boat traps out there, bit like the D-Day landing. Apart from the silverware, it's now just turned into a recruitment drive for Sydney Uni. On their page they broadcast how they won the Cup but don't say they just shredded some schoolboy crews! Don't get me started with Hen & Chicken Bay...

Gentlemen,

Bear total wins etc. thats all well and good, but perhaps a better question to ask is that of the top 1%.

Over the past 100 years who are the top one percent of all GPS rowers. The elite. The best of the best. Ice cold, no mistakes.

What year(s)? Which school? Why so?
The plaque for the alternates is down in the ladies' room...

Looking forward to some good banter!!!

Boys, good news to tell, I've heard from coaches and younger lads that the newington senior squad were training in Canberra on the humble lake burley. Coaches were pleased to see the 1st 8 and 2nd 8 running along nicely against and with the current aus. Women's 8 that were having a training camp as well. Good to see some serious boat speed developing and the fours improving along side them with new changes from injury and overseas exchanges seeing new but powerful lads adding extra depth to the already full squad

It is great to see and note that newington this year, has the greatest number of boys in their squad then ever before. With full 3rd 8 plus 2 reserves blokes entering this years head of the river.

Still not sure but the low numbered year 10 eights who were training on the parramatta river over the past week.

This is a tough one but I reckon the grammar crew of 2011 did pretty alright. They won the year 10 VIII in 2009 and then kept their cool to bring home the Major having not won it for 30 years. That's a pretty solid effort if you ask me. Ditmarsch @ Harvard and some world championship medals on the side. Imagine how tough it must have been to break such a massive losing streak. I suppose if you look at all the results from that season it's pretty clear that they all rowed in the off season, nonetheless it's got to be one of the better ones no?

Maybe someone should just drop all the medals off to Stanmore this arvo

The New squad will appreciate your weight just dropping in the bow.

Maybe a few of the New lads were manning up in the presence of the ladies? Though I think if they were only keeping up with the Oz Women's VIII they'll need to go a bit faster than a 6:10 or 6:18 (UK women's Olympic winning time) against the blasted Shore crew who regularly break 6 mins. Though maybe New could be an invitational head to head (along with Cranbrook) and the New boys could clean them up??!

Well hold on - 30 years earlier they did the same: hadn't won for 30 years etc., except there were 2 false starts and they also won 2nd VIII's.

IS I'm all over it, the heavyweight Kings crew of 2001, I understand, went through the season underfeated and did an amazing 5.47 in the HOR and also went on to compete at Henly and win their division, the other contenders would have to be the lightweight Grammar senior VIII's of '78, as they had no form in the prior years leading up to their 1st & 2nd VIII WINS. Checking my programme the 1st VIII averaged 77.5kgs, and these races were 2400 mtrs!!!

Newington boatshed is closed today, will be open tomorrow.

Ha. Again dude it's just basic comprehension. I said "stanmore" not Abbotsford. We'll just leave them at the main office. Also you know that we know you're in the senior squad man do no need to "I've heard from coaches and younger lads blah" - just be your authentic self. Peace

Touché re: 2001 kings. Our coach reckons that crew won 42 races from 42 starts not to mention the towling they gave the Sydneu clubs at gold cup and states. I think some of those guys might even have been in the 2002 crew that won having not won a race all year. Nonetheless I still reckon that Grammar crew deserves a mention no? 30 years of history is tough. I wouldn't want to be in that boat. You know if you look at the history books St Joseph's have won nationals twice since 1999 but messed up HOTR...God I love weird sports stats. Praise him.
