Yeah. By me. I don't believe the thread had any real merit to it and in fact was not a productive one, in terms of adding to the tone of GAGR.

Why not? I'm sure you can justify your actions. My point was to demonstrate:

a) An exceptional backline
b) An alternative backline
c) A feasible backline
d) A backline that demonstrates the influx of some top players with PI heritage

The Brumbies have something called the "Community" (self-titled) which the players with PI heritage at the Brumbies formed. It has been mentioned in the media in an extremely positive fashion. My intention was to draw parallels with this and what could happen at the Ws.

Gagger, I hope you're reading this. This form of censorship is short sighted IMO. Furthermore, to not let someone know about the removal of their well-intended content just lets mods shape the site with their opinions only, sends a shit message to the posters, does absolutely nothing to build a good culture on the site, and is ultimately pretty damn rude.

Maybe with all that as an explanation the thread could have gone somewhere.

I am constantly reminded of such by La Jarse, to such an extent that this is the default state at Chez Jarse. The only variable is the depth of badness that I am in.

IMO, too many discussion threads turn into a discussion about a national 3rd tier competition. I think there needs to be a dedicated thread for this and discussion on it should be discouragaged in other threads (like schoolboy scholarships). It annoys me when I go to read the Shute Shield 2013 thread that the various models for a national comp are being debated.

Couldn't agree more, i know i'm responsible for contributing to some of those discussions but the third tier debate is a quick way to derail a conversation into something which belongs in another thread.

Hi All,

So it's been a few months since we brought in the changes. I think most would agree it hasn't been a huge detriment to the site by feel, but what do the stats say?

The only real way you can compare like with like is to compare to the same time period for the previous year. Which I have in the graphs below for the month of Feb.

If our new policy was working, you would expect to see

• fewer threads being started,
• potentially fewer posts but higher quality threads and posts, which would hopefully lead to
• more user engagement/activity and
• hopefully even more member registration.

Here's what we saw:

I was quite stunned when I saw these numbers because of just how well they fitted with our new policies. By Google analytics our visits are just as strong as before - in fact you guys are coming back more often then before, but due to Google biting us in the ass with search, the numbers look flat. We need you to share more with Facebook, twitter, Google+, Reddit, whatever!

I'd like to thank Cyclo and Daz and all the mods for pushing through with this even through the niggling doubts. Also thanks for all youse guys for powering on.

So, we have a massive increase in people joining yet we have a drop in both threads started and actual posts.
That is not an encouraging set of statistics IMHO.

I understand your intentions however the diversity seems to be dropping off, sadly.
The number of threads on the rugby discussion board is slowly sterilising. I would suggest perhaps that we have gone a little too far in reducing "unwelcome" threads'

Of the 32 threads on the first page on that forum only eight have been created within the last 2 weeks. Of those 8 there are none that is either controversial or amusing. Whilst some posters in the past were somewhat over the top, you actually need a proportion of "provocative" posts to boost discussion and bring out the passion.

Please read the thread headings in the first page of this forum and tell me that it is more interesting (or even as interesting) than before the changes.

I think the forum is far more sterile than it was in the past. The restrictions on thread posting have certainly led to less provocative threads being started. Provocative threads are always the most interesting IMO.

I sort of just dont see the point in having a sterile internet forum. If I wanted to see predictable and obvious comments on australian rugby, I'd watch the rugby club or read rugby heaven. The reason people come here is for an alternate and more in depth view of the situation - which IMO this site is providing less and less of.

I liked the epic game threads where we would spend 3 pages arguing a single penalty, or 15 pages arguing if Giteau was a bad bloke for taking that kick. With the split discussion and match sections you don't seem to get them anymore.

Furthermore, nowadays I sort of get the feeling that some posters are almost too scared to post for fear of being shot down by the hivemind. I also think there are too many stickies.

Obviously I'm not moderating it so if it's easier to run the forum this way, I'm not going to tell you how to suck eggs. But I certainly dont think I'm alone in my view of the current state of the forum.
