With all the tense discussion about our favourite players in our favourite game I thought it would be good to table something upbeat all rugby fans will like that I realised the other day.
On Friday night I was at the Melbourne game with my best friends and my four year old daughter. At half time, as it usually does, the field had four kids teams playing. I'd say they were five. Boys and girls, mostly boys but some girls, having a go. Each time one scored a try we all roared our approval. Turning to my daughter I could see the glint in her eye, and I realised. If my girl wants to, she can be a world champion, a gold medallist, in a sport I love. The IRB has achieved that for us.
So thank you IRB, and every person who helped make it happen. Who knows if my kids will play rugby, but as a parent I am rapt that our game gives this opportunity to my kids.
