Colts match of the round this week would have to be Eastwood V Parramatta. Pretty even from results so far and a fair bit of feeling as many of these boys played or went to school together throughout juniors. There's motivation for Parramatta to redeem many years of floggings and motivation for Eastwood to maintain the supremacy status quo.

I think given the history and the closeness of these games no matter how the two teams a faring, the size of the crowd and it being the village green there is a little northern beaches derby at Manly that will be an interesting affair

Yes likewise - no doubt. Would be good to say g'day - I'll be at the players shoot where the Marlinettes gather.

Isn't it great to see honest to goodness competition back in the Colts! Add Uni and Norths and this is a very attractive round, can somone send me Tom Waterhouse' number? (warning - the prior statement may have been a poor attempt at humour, or something)

Uni v Norths is certainly the top of the colts club championship clash of the round, with both clubs going well across the grades, however Rats v Marlins and Parra v Eastwood will be equal if not better for passion. All we needed was for West Harbour to play West Harbour (sorry Souths) for a full house! ;)

After First Colts went down last night 34 -22 in a competitive affair, the flying 3s got one back for the red and black with a very convincing performance and a 28 - 5 win. 2s then got off to a great start leading 19 - 7 at the break before Uni came back strongly and eventually just sneaked it by a goal kick over the boys from the North Shore 28 - 26. The boys have shown they can compete with the benchmark across the grades and the depth bodes well for the club once the inevitable injury toll starts mounting.

I see what you did there with the 2nd grade results. At first glance it is a white wash to the Mighty 2 Blues. Regardless the Woodies don't give up victories easily.

Who woulda thunk you would have got these results from 2 Blues after the last couple of years. What's more it is not such a surprise.

You run out of superlatives to describe the turnaround achieved at Parra. Keep it up.

Sounds like Manly are getting over the blip against Eastwood. Testing times coming up over the next few weeks with Manly, Norths, Randwick and Souths all playing each other.

There's been no discussion on this board since Sunday, so lets get one rolling on this weekend's round of Colts 1st. My tips:
  • Wests to win their second game against Warringah
  • Manly too strong for Penrith
  • Norths to bounce back over Randwick
  • Uni to beat Souths
  • Parra to go 4 in a row over Easts
  • Eastwood to bounce back over Gordon

The Colts comp looks really competitive this year.
Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow see grade and colts on the same ground?
I know a few years ago they tried playing Colts 1sts on the same ground as grade, but I think there were issues with providing subs as a result of the colts 2 and 3 playing at the other team's home ground.
Maybe it could be looked at again with 4th grade and colts 2 and 3 playing on a ground nearby.
This would be easy for some clubs (eg Uni, Norths, Eastwood, Rats, Parra) but not so easy for the others.
So lineup on main ground would be:
3rd grade
2nd grade
1st colts
1st grade

Any thoughts?

That would be tempting to have some of the Colts 1 boys run out as 1st grade reserves with 10 to go to get them a "taste" of Grade footy.

I think a consequence of separating 4th grade from 3rds to 1sts, and having them play "curtain raiser" to 3rds colts could possibly be the death of 4th grade in many clubs.

Good point -- and that would be a shame

A brief discussion (3 posts) about a suggestion to split up where colts teams play or the sequence of games on game day is hardly straying off topic.

The Thread is Colts 2013, not Colts 2013 Week by Week Tips, Updates and Match reports.

One of the joys of Gaggerland is the broad convas of issues covered, like any chat in the bar after a game.

When a divergent topic goes on and on for multiple posts and extends over pages, then by all means bring us back on topic.
