any news on whether or not 3rd's having their season cut short?? the board was to decide last night.

It would be a very short sighted decision if they decided to cut the season short.

If they did, then the clubs should run their own knockout competition with a Cup, plate, bowl, shield etc final to give the lads a fair go. If Uni have the rumoured 30+ kids in their squad, then let them enter 2 teams in the Jarse Competition.

If SRU don't want to do it, it can't be too hard to organise can it?

I like Huge's approach of the Clubs seizing the initiative. I sense there is little or no confidence among the Clubs in the way the SRU is running things.

SRU have apparently reversed their decision to cut the 3s colts season and have accepted an all clubs proposal to continue the draw as drawn. Well done the clubs for opposing the original decision and presenting an alternative resolution.

^^^ Common sense prevails.

Hard to believe what would have motivated the decision in the first place.

Time to get back on the field.

Looking forward to the Manly - Uni game this weekend in Colts 1. Even though Manly have a few out on OZ 20's duty they should still have enough cattle to give Uni a fight over the points. The big question is whether Manly's midfiled can handle the Uni centres and shut down or at least influence the Uni backline. I think the battle in the forwards will be an even affair with each pack nullifying the other

I'd assume Uni will have a heavy representation (10 last weekend v Force) in the Tahs v Lions so they might be well down on strength, but haven't seen the Tahs team yet.

Not so silly the coach. With plenty of 1's on rep duty, 2's will backfill the 1's and Colts 1 backfill the 2's (and some in the 1's) with flowon to Colts 2's and 3's.

The depth of both Uni and Marlins Colts programmes will be tested this weekend.

Gentlemen 2 questions for your feedback

1. What are the various incentives offered to players in premier colts in 2013?
2. Whose running the best "pound for pound" colts programme & why?

Allow me to vote for the Parramatta program. We have not and will not ever, offer cash or in-kind incentives for Colts and find the concept abhorrent. We have helped players find work and shared accommodation, but at their own cost. We have over 70 registered players, field 3 competitive sides every week and sit 6th in the colts club championship. There is a strong, competitive club spirit brought about by dedicated coaches and a group of young men who play for the love of the game and playing with their mates. Given where we were in recent times, hard to beat us 'pound for pound'.

Certainly can't haggle with what the 2 blues have achieved at all off the back of a considered strategy and in comparison to where they were even 12 months ago.

If you look at the competition as whole most clubs are now doing good things with their colts to transition from the protected school environment to grade so it is hard and probably unfair to measure. Not sure what you regard as "in kind incentives" Ryan09 - does help with studies or strategic alliances with tertiary institutions qualify and I'm not thinking Uni here ?Gordon's link with UTS for example will assist with that club's rebuild. All clubs i hope have or should by now have an employment register to assist all players not just colts.....

Not sure you'll get too much info on financial incentives paid by clubs to colts players on this thread just rumours and misinformation from the disaffected

Anything that is given as an incentive that requires no more than playing for a club in return, is in-kind. That includes scholarships, bursaries, 'petrol money'', rent or free accommodation. It's rampant and in my opinion is indicative of much that is so wrong with rugby development.

Certainly you have a great opportunity with the Uni of Western Sydney. It absorbed the old Hawksbury Ag college which had a strong rugby tradition. UWS also runs a sport science program so will have a load of post grads. looking to practice on someone, plus the scholarship thing.
Illawarra rugby has a close relationship with Uni of Wollongong ( I often see them with machines that go "beep" that they practice on JGS boys) training is usually at the Uni and in the uni gym.
My advice is to find out as much as you can about what Sydney Uni does and see if you can duplicate it with UWS and local Penrith businesses.

'We have not' that is a very short memory Ryan09. Ever thought of the Colts side that Dave Harvey participated in?

As we all know Dave Harvey doesn't play for free.

By 'we have not' I mean the current Parra administration. Prior to 2010 it was common place to throw money at almost anything which is part of why the club lost it's way. It's a very different attitude now which we intend to keep and grow.

Gee thanks Hugie, we hadn't thought of that...seriously though we are in negotiations 2 tertiary institutions to become part of Two Blues KickStart - a suite of employment and educational opportunities. There are no free rides or inducements however our partners provide vocational pathways that might otherwise be difficult for players from our region to access. That's our point of difference and part of the reason for our early success so far.

I know they are part of the reason for your success but I think looking past the 'Pacific Islander' influence also might produce some results.

Known to come and then go in packs which can sometimes not be ideal.
