I'm not sure that the solution for Emus development and growth is based around simply tipping cash into the club/area.

Development, advertising, engaging juniors, starting clubs, running tournaments, meet the Tahs, meet the Wobs, Wobs training sessions/open days, School tournaments, follow up tournaments with club activities, all the usual sort of stuff but with some decent coordination of it all to maximise outcome for inputs.

Get some star power at the Club. Any imported Player should be made to align with the Emus (even more street cred if the actually reside west of ANZAC Parade, or South of the Harbour Bridge.

Again, apart from words, what precisely has been the support that the Establishment have given to the Emus club? Anyone know. Genuine question.

HJ, a leg up straight into the Shute without having to play for it, in the early years a number of players were also encouraged that way but didn't stay.
Was it due to;
Culture, it can't be given fom the establishment it is built within.

I do believe the right culture would assist in attracting players as well.

HJ whilst we can't all do a Sydney Uni - Parra provides a good example to emulate, they will no doubt confirm it involves hard work.

I find the frequent bagging of Sydney Uni' tiresome.

As others have said here, the way forward isn't to bring Uni' down, it's to bring other clubs up.

I agree that the requirement for marquee/imported/interstate players to play for a W. Sydney club is probably a good idea.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but an issue that needs addressing is the effect the Penrith club will probably have on semi-final positions in the lower grades and colts.
Because their are not 2 full competition rounds, those lucky clubs who play Penrith twice add 60-100+ points to their points difference, which is a massive advantage over those who don't. If competition points are equal at season's end it's simply unfair.
How long does this situation at Penrith continue for?
Time for rugby's decision makers to shit or get off the pot.
If they throw $$$ and resources at Penrith just make sure there are performance triggers and a timeframe for results.
This isn't anything like the AFL propping up GWS and at the moment "it ain't getting better with time".

Wallabies or Tahs training session , wouldn't cost them money , Just a change of venue,.. Huge publicity from it
Would take my kids to see it...... a lot of wallabies fans live out west.

If the emu's get cut they are gone for good , no coming back.

We want to grow the SS supporter base , not cull teams

Wobs get 80,000 at a game , Tahs get 18,000 at a game. They all enjoy rugby.. promote SS in the suburbs and get some of those bums on seats at SS games

Part of the problem for Emus is player retention. In a market with clubs with more to offer than just pride, what can the Emus realistically table that is at least competitive or worth the toil for players. Right now, the current management is withholding payments because they dont believe the players deserve it? (informed from a senior player) - So the board needs overhauling... perhaps with some younger blood who can see the potential rather than views of survival...

Its not about bringing in your Folau's or Beale's because the west mass produce these players... Just look at the NRL or junior NRL comps in the West for proof (not only of players but quality (skillset) of players)... Its about concrete and attractive incentives - I too am unaware what the institution (NSWRU) has done for the Emus but surely building a similar model to the most successful empire of park footy (USYD) in the west by ailgning with UWS etc could have been an outstanding opportunity but I've heard the Penrith Panthers jumped in bed with the UWS....lost opportunity maybe? The west has a sports academy etc... so the incentives must prioritise junior footy with more pathways outside footy... jobs education etc

And finally the right coach must be hired who understand the strengths and weakness of Emus play... increasing education about the game knowledge, strategies and rules to players and not treat them like skool kids - I've yet to meet a coach (apart from Glen or Gary Ella) who treated these players with respect...

Out of interest, any idea when the super 15 players from the franchises that didn't make the finals will be available for club rugby? And where will they be playing? I know a lot go to uni, just wondering where else.

Ditto Im jack of pulling success down, it should be followed where possible.
But tribalism is rife and we can hate Uni.
There should be some great club rugby coming up, will we see JOC (James O'Connor) take on the Woodies this weekend.

If Uni weren't hoarding all the talent for themselves then no one would be bagging them.

While I agree the way forward is to bring the other clubs up, it does get annoying to see Uni hogging all the top talent for themselves, Israel Folau going to Uni another prime example.

I've heard that Warren Livingstone wants to buy the licence from Sydney Rugby Union to run the Shute Shield.

Apropos of which, how are Balmain travelling in Division 1 of Subbies?

Izy going to Uni is a unique example, and I would have liked to see him go out west. I think a lot of their grade did filter through their colts system, they are only making use of their resources, we can still all dislike them though.

The club championship is closer than it's been for the last couple of years, that shows a broader spread of talent.

I think placing a coach like Brain Melrose at Penrith would have a greater depth of impact than send a player like Izy out there.

I'm interested in this Super B that got some air time in todays Tele, and when it will be played?
Tah's get 15k to their games at SFS, I'm not sure how many people would rock up to see their seconds play?

Currently running 3rd in the Kentwell Cup and 5th in the club championship.

Gordon Rugby Club's Annual Gala Dinner is on again and tickets are nearly sold out. 27th July at the The Civic Pavilion, in the new concourse in the heart of Chatswood. Celebrating the past 25 years of Gordon Rugby including the 20th anniversary of the 1993 season where we won 1st, 3rd, 4th grade premierships and the club championship.
