Funny - some of the old boys didnt warm to him and he apparently thought rowing was too elitist but I've never heard anyone bag him enough to justify Jones' reaction.

Surely,he is being more conciliatory with the other Schools in private?

If his main stakeholder group is the Scotts community and potential parents then he needs to show character, surely. He is responding to a group who have committed the same crime (as confirmed by Hawkes). so its all about degree. A level of degree that is not written down anywhere, except when Hawkes said its too much. What is too much?
Considering the fight in the good Doctor, it seems Scotts were blindsided, but don't know. if anyone does that would be good to hear.
One thing is clear is that the AAGPS will not be the same again, that maybe a good thing. but I hope the 'gang of 5' considered the possible implications of their actions.

What is the Pulveriser and ARU going to do in this event?
For too long it seems that ARU have sat back and developed a reliance on the AAGPS, and largely ignored the CHS. CCC and AICES school associations and the Sydney and NSW Country Juniors (with equivalents in Brisbane/QLD).

One good outcome is that this would probably mean that Shore would get more of their "homegrown" certified organic talent selected for Schoolboys, Soup, Wobs and beyond, and that would be seen as a good outcome by some of the myopic self centered types living off past glories.

Do you not think HJ that this realisation may have led to my almost naming and shaming?

At the risk of sounding like a 2nd rate politician or a hollywood screen writer - they may have been motivated by the implications of not acting.
That may explain why they chose a somewhat lower profile sport to raise their issues through.
There seemed to be any number of inconsistencies and contradictions in the interview relating to the intersection between the educational philosophy and the sport philosophy.
Were I a parent those inconsistencies would worry me whichever side of the freeby I was on.

Not enough of the current batch of Wobs were on Scholarship in the AAGPS (or BrisVegas GPS).

See how the OBs go with the new guy who has spent most of the past 30 years in South Australia, has never taught at a GPS type school and whose interests are listed as tennis, football, running, cycling, reading and philosophy.

Blind Freddy may need you to post your name, mobile phone number and address to "name and shame" you, if so desired.

The reality is that you do not get to 7000+ posts without leaving some clues as to your identity that "non-blind" Freddy could be able to work out.

Clever Freddy's were able to work it out fairly early on, yet we see no point in doing the "name and shame".

Might I say that there is nothing posted that would be inappropriate for a "prominent member of Sydney's legal fraternity" to post, even if the heavyweights of Rugby's underworld were upset with one or more of said posts.

I read that comment about Zonk Mylonis and had a quiet chuckle. I think we have all experienced a Zonk or two in our lives that we can relate to, and good on good old Zonk for giving it a red hot go even though he really had no clue.

If I was technologically as clever as you I may perhaps have done the old cut and paste thingy from the SMH as well. Alas, for me it is very much the two fingers flying across the keyboard at lightning speed and dodgy accuracy and bugger all else.

1) Just a reminder of whence stems this controversy:

"Code of Practice

In the light of these principles, the GPS Headmasters affirm the following code of practice:

No inducements such as sporting scholarships, whether direct, disguised, or at arm's length, shall be offered by any member school. Financial assistance to talented sportsmen shall not form part of the enrolment strategy of any member school." (my emphasis)

A simple solution might be to just ditch the clauses that so many members are so happy to ignore.

2) Tim Hawkes' 'position' is fascinating. Was he in charge when the Conn/Halngahu/et al competitions were being bought ? Who on earth decides what's over the top ? I too remember 1993 when High's premiership was bought by Scots.

3) the basketball rebellion is really about the rugby isn't it ? That's the sport from which two schools have already seceded wth a third thinking about it, isn't it ?

4) it's really just bad luck that rugby has gone professional....another possible quick easy solution might be to just switch from rugby to another, still safely amateur, sport......shinty anyone ?
