Male Sau is a pretty good player, he's a decent sized unit, runs hard, distributes the ball well and he can find the try line no worries. He plays in the centres for both Japan and his Top League club, Yamaha. I haven't seen him play flyhalf but he might be a backup at Yamaha, he would probably be Japan's 4th choice, behind Ono, Tatekawa and Tamura.

I don't think he's a goal kicker, Ayumu Goromaru is pretty shaky at best and he's Japan's kicker (and also Yamaha's). I doubt if he will push any of Ellison, Inman, English or even Mitchell out of the starting side so it's probably a moot point as to whether he kicks or not.

I'd say he been signed mainly as a backup for Crumbs and general cover for the rest of the back line.

Thomson's had a few rough years in Super Rugby, his earlier stint at the Tahs was also interrupted by injury.

I think you might be confusing the Otago NPC team with the BOP NPC team, which in understandable because of their colour schemes.

The Otago NPC 9 is on the bench for the Clan and would probably get a start at most other Super Rugby teams, he's damn good and sets a snappy tempo. He's behind the ABs 9 though, so it's understandable.

It's amazing to see more Japanese players coming through in Super Rugby. If we add Argentina and scrap the conference season then the barriers to a Japanese team entering Super Rugby lessen (though there are still plenty).

Anyone else notice the new Membership category, not necessarily for Rebels fans either. Kiwi twin pack, tow game membership for Rebels v Crusaders and Rebels v Hurricanes for only $40.
