potential CAS firsts halves?
It looks like Kirkby (B) has got the 9 jersey locked in, but the 10 position still looks up for grabs.
Smerdon (B) seemed a bit shy on the weekend in his first game back and seemed to kick it a bit too often and is yet to regather his form from last year, and both Renton (C) and Dainton (A) are both in great form and are definitely in contention for the position. Any thoughts fellas?

Surely a look at Nicholas (K) wouldn't be a mistake. Clean and error free footy. He's been instrumental in knox's domineering start to the season.

from what I've heard, he isn't much of an individual player, and Knox tends to play most of their backs ball through their star centres, personally I think Smerdon (B), Renton (C), or Dainton (A) would be a better decision

I reckon Dainton at twelve could work two - he tackles extremely well and a double half combo could be used to increase our technical ability against a bigger gps team

I don't think Waverley could play as badly as they did in the 2nd half of last weeks Cranbrook game ...

and I think they have their best chance against Barker ... particularly if Barkers forward pack is as described elsewhere .... although Waves will need to fix up some basics and do a lot of set piece work ... nothing beats live scrum practice!

tipping Waverley in a close one.

Due to recent run of form, it would seem Knox should demolish Aloysius this coming weekend. However, Aloys has won the last two games between the sides and could prove to be Knox's Achilles heel. Always a thorn in the side, Aloys should be looking to remind Knox of past fixtures and look to unnerve the home team this Saturday afternoon. Exciting game

I'm taking bets on this game - aloys at $4.52 - Knox at $1.10

Serious question, can you or have you ever been able to bet on school sports?

I have known of individuals calling up betting agencies prior to the start of the CAS season and getting odds for the premiership team - then placing a bet

As for individual games I haven't heard of anything but I'm sure pre 90s there may have been something going on

Lee Grant might be able to help

Yes.
In the late 70's some bookies or something turned up at a GPS boat camp offering to field on the head of the river.
I believe some got set but I do not know if they ever collected,

Well i'd argue the fact knox has star centres is a result of his unselfish play. I understand the competition for this spot may be stronger individuals but as far as a team first (10) goes Nicholas is the man.

As the score line suggests the Barker game was a much tougher test for Cranbrook than Waverley. How poorly Waverley played is more about how well that Cranbrook pack battered them from start to finish. Barker was able to compete across the park with Cranbrook particularly their backline that unlike Waverley’s who never really got into gear. When Waverley was able to get outside McGiven and Makas (both of whom are ferocious) they made ground but Cranbrook’s great defence in the middle kept shutting that down. On their left side, I don’t think the Cranbrook 11 had to made a single tackle the whole match whilst on the right, 14’s running was very impressive but he had none of that freedom versing Barker.

Form tells me that Barker will not dominate like Cranbrook unless Waverley surrender and I'd be shocked if that happened.

Saturday's game will certainly be a test for Waverley ... it's difficult to make predictions and it will be interesting to see what happens. It also depends on the final make up of the two teams.

I can't see Waverley winning this weekend, Barker will have too much strength in the pack, and in the centres. Waverley's midfield is finding it difficult to tackle in their middle channels, teams are running straight through the middle of them.

Cause i saw the Waverley 16A's, and they had a lot of size in their forward pack and still were dominating the cranbrook pack with a player in the bin
