As for away sides at Logan turning up with depleted line ups due to fresh reserves going to Bond - why couldn't the First Grade games be played on a Friday night freeing up the fresh reserves to travel to the coast the next day?

You would just have to then ensure that the visiting clubs don't take the mickey and roll the left over 1st grade players into their 2nd grade the next day. But just put in place a rule that if you start in a higher grade you cannot then start in a lower grade game that weekend - I think there might already be something like that in the rules in any event.

I agree TT. Was actually just thinking that also just now.
There must be a way around it to ensure Logan and other clubs have the best opportunity to contest in all aspects of the game, across all grades.
Earlier games? Different day? Later games at Bond i.e. Prems 7:30pm kick off? Give time for players to play at Logan then head south?

Playing 14 on 15 and possibly creating an even bigger gap in the scoreline isnt the answer.
As you can see with Norths, and it is the same with other clubs, it's not like we are running a forward pack with 8 fit back rowers and trying to gain that type of advantage..... We just don't have the qualified fatties to compete at this stage.

It will drive players of limited ability away from our game when we need to encourage them to participate.... And then bring their mates!

Be careful TGB - not many people on this forum "Agree" with me - but glad to have you as an ally - it is a real issue and other clubs are only an injury or two away from contested scrums. I can tell you if there had been any injury or two to the front row reserves for Easts v Brothers in Premier Grade a couple of weeks back I shudder to think what would have been run out to take on what on the day was a very powerful Brothers scrum.

There are the litigious issues if someone gets hurt playing front row when they really aren't capable but on the other extreme we end up with Rugby League Scrums (they shouldn't be called that as they aren't a contest) in lower grades??

Then we go back to de-powering the scrum in junior/school rugby from the 1980s on which is blamed for this nations lake of scrum power since about 2001.

A rather naïve comment, but I believe Easts do not deserve to make the finals. Their performance thus far has been mediocre.

I would say the same for Brothers. After winning in 09, Brothers lost badly at the start of 2010, but still made the finals when they shouldn't have.

How many games have you seen Filth?

Sorry but to comment that their performance is mediocre, after you having presumably having only watched one game, is just shit stirring.

My opinion is that the Sunnybank game is the only one where they have been completely out played.

So yes, very naive comment on your behalf.

I personally didn't read Filth's comment as shit stirring; I thought he meant the (urban dictionary) definition of mediocre performance according to match results. Given rugby results are determined by scoreboards, and you don't get points for pretty, I thought his comment (and comparison to Bros 2010) was reasonable.

The. Urban Dictionary - a most useful source for popular usage of words and terms - defines mediocre as something that is average, but expected to be much better.

At a quick glance, Easts haven't beaten any of the teams above them on the ladder, but have beaten all the teams below (Bond to come this week) and scored 4 try bonus points in 3 out of 7 games played. Bang on average for mine, but two months ago we all had them as likely finalists.

This is fair enough they sit 6th because their results to date have been average and 007 will be a very serious opponent this weekend but it is a must win for the Tigers with BP.

The traditional trophy between the clubs - Batty Bremner Thomas Trophy - will be up for grabs despite the rebranding of the Breakers.

Filth it's always a good day at the Gold Coast when we see Tigers Current v Tigers Future!!!!!

Red heavy will have to correct me, but I'm pretty sure this week Brothers and University will play for the 'Templeton McLean' Trophy!

I hope Brothers win so then we can play Uni for the Welsby Cup in the last round of fixtures.

As I predicted, Sam Johnson got Musashi Player of the Round. If only I could actually get my match tips right, then I'd be onto something.

A bit of a Flashback Thursday. But do you remember a game between Brothers and Easts, Easts won convincingly and Matt Brandon scored a great intercept try 50m out, when he went to score, he did a big swan dive and tore his hamstring?

It might not have been Matt Brandon, but I remember an Easts back doing that. It was at Ballymore if that helps.

Filth - there is no trophy that Easts & Brothers contest but I think that there should be one and that McLean/Shaw/McMillan should don it:

Peter (Spider) McLean - Easts Wallaby & cousin of Paul/Jeff;
Spider was capt of Easts when they played in the 1984 GF v Brothers captained by Tony Shaw;
Spider's sister Judy married Shawry;
Spider's other sister Liz married Ian McMillan;
Ian broke his neck in the 1971 grand final playing for Easts v Brothers;
Ian's Mother - Mrs Mac RIP - is a life member of Easts and if you think referees cop it from the local Bottomley crowd they have nothing on Mrs Mac!!

Oh what great Christmas Days they must have had!!

I know Easts won that game by a margin I would say it was 50 and that Brandon tore his hamstring and he then played on one leg in the GF in 2008, but Andrew Walker did all of the kicking - Liam Shaw did all of the punching!!!!
