As a Terrace old boy who now lives in Bardon I heard that the Padua vs. Ashgrove game was a big one and decided to ditch the GPS home game as it was only against Bond. I will start by saying; Credit to Ashgrove on their win yesterday outmuscling against a substantially larger and heavily favoured Padua team. However I will say that the performance by the young males dressed in GPS gear (whom I'm assuming are old boys) on the far side of the field was less than exemplary. Their slandering of the Padua team such as telling their tighthead prop (no. 3) "to go eat some more party pies you fat c**t", yelling to the winger Atwood (no. 11) "why dont you fix your fringe again number 11 you f******g queer and giving a hard time to the fullback (no. 15) about someone named Mary who I believe is his sister was simply un-acceptable. As well as having a go at the referee inciting violence and not to mention the fact they were all DRINKING and SMOKING in an un-licensed venue which saw Police called to the game was un-believable, a true blight on a great spectacle.

If Ashgrove has beaten Padua comfortably in every A game yesterday, 13's - 16's, with Ashgrove's 15A and 16A sides undefeated this year, why are Padua's premiership prospects so bright over the next couple of years?

How many year 11's in the Padua side this year?

To clarify ... Not Ashgroves last home game yesterday that is in 2 weeks v SPLC. Ashgrove took the points yesterday due to a very dominant pack . Line outs were taken at will . Very mobile 2 nd row and props
Padua can work towards a strong '15 '16 with several year 11s an 10s ! in this years firsts. Keep them away from league and they could take a premiership. Eddies can thank Setu for saving them a couple of times this year.

To be honest a lot of that is completely irrelevant, take a trip up to Shorncliffe on Old Boys Day, Villa Park next weekend etc and the same behaviour goes on. Not saying that the behaviour is right but you've got to be equipped to handle that if you want to be an undeafeated 1st XV side. Padua is the only school left that Ashgrove has never lost to and the players and old boys are hardly going to hand that milestone over on a platter. I always thought next year will be Padua's time and still do think so but they couldn't handle the pressure and expectation yesterday by the look of things. Pains me to say this but congrats to Ashgrove so far this year.

Yesterday was the first game the 1sts and 15As have lost this season. The 1sts currently have two year 10s (O'Toole and Ah San)
and a few year 11s (Creighton, Honour, O'Donnell, Schwenke). They'll be hard to beat in the next couple of years.

Ordinary form. Shame behaviour like this tarnishes a good game of rugby.

I witnessed today a great game of rugby, Peters and Lauries, it was such a hard game, but the best team had the win. Peters backline and forwards were outstanding to watch today. Peters 10, i think his name is TYREESE SINES?, he was feeding WOOLF and TATIPATA good clean ball in the first half.In the secind half SINES putting TATIPATA and the fullback (NO NAME YET) through nice clean holes in the within the first 15 minutes. 10 (SINES), 12 (WOOLF), 13 (TATIPATA) and 15 (NO NAME) had it all over their opposite numbers, 10 (SINES) just simply putting the ball over the LAURIES boys heads which forced some errors for LAURIES inside their 22m line. However i still believe that LAURIES could have won, however the SPLC defence was too good. i think LAURIES will win the remainder of the games left.

I disagree. I believe they still have Villa and Pats to play (Is this correct?). If both teams play at the high standard which was seen on the weekend they will be hard to beat. Particularly Villa at home (I believe they beat peters 38-24?)

Yeah I think it rattled Padua to be honest, they were definitely hearing it as I saw them looking over when they were being directly sledged. You're right though they shouldn't have let it get to them

Hey mate, went over to see a family friends son play in the Villanova first XV game last weekend, can also confirm that the old boys were being extremely irrational in their language. What happened when the police cam out of interest?

Bad luck to Villa for yesterday

The only thing more shameful than the Ashgrove supporters was the fact the Ashgrove administration did nothing to eject them - Ashgrove seems to promote a win and at all costs culture which is IMO very ugly. The fact that the Shorncliffe boys are worse does not excuse the behaviour - a grub is a grub is a grub is a grub.... First rule of sport - respect your opponent.
The Ashgrove players of course should be proud of their efforts. Why are Padua dying in the second half? Too much strength training not enough conditioning? I question the necessity of a six nations rugby tour too - the boys are looking tired. If Saturdays game was approached in a business as usual manner they would have win - the weight of expectation - and intimidation by a hostile environment - got the better of them.

As previously stated, there is Lawson Creighton, John Honour, Zac O'Donnell, Louis Schwenke. They also have two year 10's in Tom O'Toole and Sonny Ah San. Padua's 15a's in 2013 also won an undefeated premiership under the guidance of recently promoted co-coach, Sean Graham who happens to be an Ashgrove old boy I believe. This years 15a's have only just lost one game and the 15b's remain undefeated with a win over ashgrove yesterday. So there is doubt that Padua's future is bright. This year will be a massive lesson for them. However, it's not over yet and they can still share premiership success.

Apart from Ashgrove and Padua's futures, what are the other schools looking like? Pats looking better from what I've seen, are they in for a few years of stability and consistency? How about Lauries? Is it their 14a's or 15a's that are strong? Villa might be struggling to find another team comparable to their 2010 dominant pack for a while. It's interesting how Ashgrove has always been consistent even when they are relatively weak. Lauries used to have this consistency 2000-2011, but now it really seems like they are struggling. It's fascinating because Lauries I believe is the 2nd largest or 3rd largest school.

They tricked the kids pretty well. Marked vehicle parked out the front and plain clothes came down the back when they had their attention on the marked car, I don't know what they said to them but it didn't have much effect because they kept on going!

You're nothing if not predictable, Royalderry, your anti-Ashgrove bias is showing again.

Aren't you a teacher at Padua, formerly of SLC? Regardless, you don't cope well with losing to Ashgrove, as your posts after the 2011 decider and today show. You'd think that after all of the practice you've had......

Not at all G - the Ashgrove players were exceptional and should be proud of their efforts - a spirited performance and deserving winners - the behaviour by the Ashgrove Old Boys was an unsavoury blight on the game in my opinion. I stand by that.

OK, fair response.

I wasn't at the game so I can't comment on the Old Boys behavior.

However, the boys are going to cop much worse than that at club level, union or league, so whilst not condoning that type of barracking it's a learning experience for them.

I agree - the players were turning towards the hecklers and entertaining them which made it worse. Didn't handle the pressure and paid the price.

If your copping that sort of abuse and you go up 22-5 can hardly blame them for firing back, happens on every level of sport so expect nothing less from 16/17 year olds. Was at the game and thought Padua were going to blow them out but Ashgrove put on a forwards clinc in the 2nd half. twenty metre driving mauls, pick and drives and starved Padua of any ball or territory. Thought Padua were shook up by a bit of blue before halftime, either that or just thought they had it won at the half and werent expecting that much of a response from Ash.

Ashgrove #1 who I heard was an Australian schoolboy (can anyone clarify) did more talking than playing, was outplayed by his opposite. Tried to start a fight almost every 5 minutes. Will get what's coming to him
