Well Done for a successful year tahs fans. Great to see 60000 at the final. Haven't heard a mention of "dynasties" or the like, which is encouraging. Dont change a thing and you will be there at the death next year.

Except for Chekia saying he wants 10 years of dominance.. Which with there players and coach they have a good chance.
He didn't say anything like that.
In the press conference he even said to the journos not to use the D word again because of all the crap he copped from the using it the week before (even though he never said the word himself).
He said as far as he was concerned, Dynasty was a crap TV show in the 70s.
He said all he's trying to do is play a style of rugby that the fans want to see and make the team known for being a bunch of guys who work really hard. No more, no less.
As ever, a coach says they want to create an ongoing environment for success, they aim to defend a title etc and it gets bent all out of shape in the translation.
It's like the usual Pavlovian reaction to the East whenever an Australian coach or player states they are aiming to win a Test against the ABs, then all we hear about is "disrespect" and "talking themselves up". Drives me nuts.
Cheika's biggest problem is his honesty when he speaks. Which I actually like. Like McKenzie. Better than the drivel we used to hear from Hickey and Foley.

I have no problem him saying but to say he hasn't said anything about sustained success, granted I saw an article that title may have given the wrong impression but obviously he has spoke about.

Listen to the actual press conferences these articles are based on. Cheika really didn't say anything beyond playing a style that the fans want to see and making the team known for hard work.

Nothing wrong with honesty. Too often Tahs teams in the past have failed to front when it counts and had the inability to confront the constant bull$hit they thrived on and read about in the press.
Cheika ripped the guts out of the joint, worked them to the bone and instilled a huge sense of belief and character but more importantly some much needed mongrel and aggression across the board.
The defensive effort against the Brumbies in the semi, sums up for me, everything about Cheika - tough, unrelenting, in your face, aggressive and hungry.
Let's hope our Wallabies rip in and take it to the All Blacks in 2 weeks in a similar fashion with the best the Reds, Brumbies, Force and Rebels have to offer added to a confident (not arrogant) Tahs group.

Wanting to drink in everything to do with that glorious game, I did listen to the Cheika/Hooper press conference, and it was fascinating. Cheika's description of how he viewed Foley's kick was most interesting - basically, very pleased that Foley immediately took responsibility for taking the kick, no hesitation, because taking responsibility for your work was one of the key attitudes that Cheika wanted to see. That he made the kick was good also. Easy to say in hindsight, I guess, but it does seem that's the mindset he has been pushing all year. Very similar in its way to Bob Dwyers "do the little things right and the results will take care of themselves."
Anyone see Cheika on the 7:30 report tonight? Never knew he used to work with Colette Dingiham in fashion, let alone Cheika being a fan of the couture industry. He is the LAST person I thought would be involved, but I always like surprises. Apparently the fashion industry taught him a lot about people management and getting the best out of people.
Good story.
I liked his line that respect is given when meeting someone, not earned. It is then theirs to lose.

I have a confession to make. I was tying myself in a knot for the whole game, screaming my heart out but trying not to get optimistic. Not sure I could handle another game ripped away by the kiwis. I couldn't watch the last 15 minutes. I sat in my seat with my head in my hands just listening to the crowd. It was quite surreal just relying on the sound. As the crowd roared I couldn't tell if the Tahs had made a break or they were chasing down a Crusader. I would glance up from my hands, scream some more, sit down with my head in my hands.
I believed, but we've all been hurt so many times just before the siren. I waited for the penalty goal, the field goal or the steam rolling Nadolo run. Then with 4 minutes to go it happened. Right in front. Crusaders kick the penalty to take the lead by two.
Fuck that I screamed. Com'on Tahs. 3 minutes to go. I joins in the chorus of 'NSW' as they rumbled back up the field. 2 minutes to go.
Then right in front of me, McCaw infringes. I let out an almighty roar.
Then I look at the distance to the posts. Crap that's tough. Foley takes the ball. No I say, you can't kick it that far. Give it to Beale. The Lions Test flashes through the mind and the kick that missed. Oh fuck oh fuck.
I sit in my seat again, while everyone stands. My head in my hands just listening. Listening for a sign of success, but as Foley lines up its quiet around me. I'm in a stadium of 62,000 but I'm alone. Not sure how I'm going take this if we lose. Can we do this again next year? Can we get another home final? Will the stars align again? Can I go through the highs and lows of the season again just believing? 19 years. Fuck you Crusaders, you have 7 titles, this is ours.
I listen, the crowd roars. It's over the cross bar. How long to go? 15 seconds my mates calls out. So close. I feel sick, surely they can't come back now?
I stand up to see McKibbin kick the ball out.
I scream out years of pent up anguish and disappointment. My head spins and I fall to my knees. I just start weeping and then I'm filled with adrenaline and I stand and start roaring. With tears rolling down my face I bear hug anyone near me.

I just stand there, grinning with my mates, soaking in the euphoria. We're Super Rugby Champions.
