Maybe, if time is up on the clock in either half. That is the only position from which you have a "gift" three points. But if time ISN'T up, then a penalty kicked simply alters the next phase in terms of starting back at halfway.

You might take 3, then have a try put on you.

I take the view that we're not fucking Poms, so we make opportunities. Link backs me up

But time was up - or would have been if we took as long as Cruden to take our kicks

after a good sleep,
abs missed power when kaino went off, saveao was great.
if the wallabies had a winger they would have scored.
hoopers great around the park, but with 2 players sin binned didnt see the ruthless plan to take advantage of it.
if the wallabies had 14 men for half the second half in eden park it could be snowing but id back Richie and the boys to crucify the wallabies.

Mealamu comes on and immediately begins throwing into the lineout like he's been on the piss all day. And half of yesterday. WhyFT sub Coles at 52 mins? The young prick just bolted 70 yards to clean up a kick with staggering aplomb for anyone let alone for a hooker. He could play a hundred fuckin minutes.

DISGRACEFUL WORK, NEW ZEALAND.

NATIONAL DISGRACE.

Just love this prose about Mealamu's line out throwing - just outstanding stuff!

Were we out-coached/out-captained last night or were those deficiencies own goals?

I'm tending to think the latter.

The use of the bench was almost Deansesque. It was clear that box kicking tactics weren't working, yet White was not hooked or no message run out to tell him to stop it.

We were far too deep in attack for too long. Might work in the dry but not the wet. Messages from the Coach should have got out earlier. Captain was also in a position to make that call as well. It happened too late.

No drop kick set up from the 77 minute mark was critical error. Where was Matt Dunning?

There didn't appear to be any change of tactics when we had the 1 man advantage, both times.

Not related to being out-coached/out-captained but two examples of poor execution that really shaped the match were:

Gilbert missing the Penalty Goal just before oranges. Most Schoolboy kickers down to the 13D's would have kicked that goal. Anyone remember his miss in Brisbane that cost us the Lions Series?

McCabe getting bundled into touch. It was pissing with rain. 5 metres from the line, you get your body height low and dive at the line. Momentum will slide you over and there is almost nothing the defence can do to stop it. Instead we choose to try a high body position twinkle toes effort that invites Savea to bundle the ball carrier into touch with little effort.

However, we took on the #1 IRB ranked team, in conditions that suited them, and came away with a draw, after being behind at oranges. We should have won and went bloody close to doing so.

The Lords of Darkness will be more upset with that result, because the conditions were to their liking, they had the best team on paper, their bench failed to make an impact, they were unable to sway the Referee as they usually manage, and their discipline let them down.

A tie against the AB. That willy win back the Bledisloe. Not. An AB side that wasn't great and spent 20 minutes down a player.

Foley was better at 10. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) & McCabe went ok. I just think Kuridrani/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is stronger and had the combination from the fremch tests. The changes backfired and were not really needed.
At the ground I thought we improved when Phipps came on. White threw a lot of average passes.

I haven't watched a replay yet but thought Beale was fine and Foley provided impact off the bench.

We should have won that game with the weight of possession.

Given the conditions I thought we played pretty skilfully. Seemed much better in the wet than we've been in recent years.

McCabe was on a hiding from nothing with that pass Charles should have drawn the man then passed or dummy and go. McCabe got a pass high he caught and got hammered by two defenders, no one would have scored from that setup.

which is why it's so bad we didn't win, opportunities like this come so rarely.

A few quick notes now I've sobered up.

I was wrong, Hooper didn't play the house down. He gave away 2 kickable penalties and gave up a gift 3 points at the end of the 1st half.
In tight, dour affairs our captain cannot afford to be leaving 9 points on the park. Also anonymous around the park in D, going the length of the game without a turnover. (Yes, Peyper ruled Richie in from the side, it's just a shame our commentators only see what they want to see and ignore the referee saying "7 incorrect entry" and then go on to praise Hooper)

Beale sucked. He played so similar to Matty T in the first bledisloe last year. Stood way too deep, most of the time took 3 steps diagonally and passed 5 metres before the line. Foley looked crisp as chips when he game on.

Beale's goal-kicking & Hoopers amateurism cost us the match. Hooper cost us 9 points and Beale 3 (I'm not even counting Beale ruining our attack)

Anyone wanna explain to me why the Wallabies refuse to go for a drop-goal off the back of a scrum. Seriously, there is NO easier time for a drop-goal.

I didn't.
My point was that even if he was his work with the ball was good enough
no sorry , Tip did that was my original reply. The general negativity towards Hooper fucking shits me too tears. Slipper and him were enormous.

We challenge and have our chances against arguably the best sporting team in the world, break there winning streak of 18 and its all doom and gloom, wake up.
