How the fuck have they regressed?
You make it sound like they had a winning record during Link's time.
They didn't.
I dont think we lost to the third placed team under Link:)

I dont think they have gone backwards, on performances. The team has gone backwards allowing Beale to play.

Once he came on I lost some interest, I find it hard to support a player I can not respect.

Good test, Irish deserved win, but score was good indication, not a lot in it. Have only read a few of the last few pages in comments, but not sure I watched the same game as a few others. Although Hooper did a couple of good things, I think Hooper at times looked like he didn't know what to do at the breakdown, looks a little lost going into breakdown in defensive situations or when the breakdown was messy. As for any complaints about refs and bullshit decisions ,I think TMO's allowing Foley's try trumps everything, and thought both touchies and Jackson missed some bad offside play in first 10 minutes, look at replay if you don't believe , and I thought Wallabies profited quite well there! I don't think there needs to be any wrist slitting yet, Wallabies have got a few forward and possibly leadership probs, but nothing that can't be improved with a bit of work.
And it's only orcland.

I dont know if we are going to improve as much as some think by the world cup.

We have some of our preferred players not available at the moment but are they that much better that we will win?

I admit I am a Huge S Fainga'a fan, but he has played pretty good since his recall. I would pick Moore above him any day but dont think Moore being selected will make that much of a difference that we will start winning.

This scenario is repeated across the field. Any starters that return are only slightly better at most.

I have great concerns over the future, I think we will be ranked about 6th or 7th in 12-18 months time.

That's not gonna happen. You play top two so often. Bound to get the odd win

It's difficult to get narky when losing to Ireland, they're such charming bastards. I know a loss is a loss but I'm not that upset about losing this one. IF we can string together the good phases of our play while eliminating the bad ones we're a show of a very good result next year. But selecting the team's a nightmare ATM. My thoughts:

  • hooker: covered with Fainga'a putting in excellent performances on tour.
  • props: I think even I'd volunteer to donate my left plum for a decent backup THP. Faulkner (and/or PAE) COULD be the pea, but I fear time'll be against him.
  • second row: Carter's coming along nicely, but very slowly. I didn't notice him do much in this match, was that because he was grafting away at the coal face doing the dirty work? I'd like to see him shift a few bodies occasionally. Horwill's immediate future looks bleak, Skelton simply must lose weight and get fit while fixing up his set plays; who else could play lock if there are unexpected injuries?
  • back row: Jones started off with a coupla shockers, but he's too good not to be persisted with. IF he gets a run next week I suspect/hope those errors won't be repeated. McCalman's come on well this tour, big Cliffy doesn't look so indispensable. Stocks looking good here when Higgers, Fardy and Pocock return.
  • scrummies: I hope and pray White gets some time next week, if Phipps goes down Genia's not good enough to wear the 9 jumper. Has Will suffered an injury this year? He looks as if he's about 10kg lighter than his peak and it's affected his upper body strength, his passes are woefully slow. And his decision-making late in the game seems to've gone missing. Nowhere near the top of his game both physically and mentally.
  • five-eighths: how many do we need? Five players on this tour who can wear the 10 jumper, Foley, Cooper, Beale, To'omua and Leali'ifano. Surely the time's arrived to pick two and stick with them. Foley and Cooper are a bit yin and yang, there's a case for starting one against some teams and the other against different teams.
  • centres: same as five-eighths, this squad seems to have a surfeit of utility backs and few specialists. Kuridrani's got one position sewn up, who's his best centre partner going to be next year? To'omua's currently the front runner, can KHunt shine here? We can't squeeze all these utility backs into a 23 game squad, possibly not even a 32 RWC squad
  • wingers: surely we now realise AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s not a frontline test winger, he's just not fast enough. I hope Gibson gets AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Horne down to the local athletics club next year to do some sprint training. Speight looks the goods but Tomane needs to improve his play to wear gold again; make it next week Joe and I'll change my opinion. Massive opportunity for JOC (James O'Connor) next year.
  • fullback: position covered if Beale or AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s on the bench. Opportunity for KHunt to get the backup spot here.

The most annoying thing about the whole Bealegate/McKenzie quitting thing is that everyone can't wait to stick the boot into Cheika. Link got a massive honeymoon while getting smoked by NZ and SA
No he didnt he coped a pasting over losing to Nz twice in a row. Those two games cost Matt To'omua his chance of ever playing 10 at at.Test level.

Not as stupid as suggesting this squad has gone backwards since the coaches changed.
Bear in mind he quit just before the tour started, the new coach didn't have a training session before they jumped on the plane.
Hardly the same prep that Link had a year prior.
Too much rose coloured glasses on here, regarding the former coach.

How was this game any worse than Links last game as coach?
To suggest this team has regressed from their performance in Argentina is very fucking stupid.

Well Link wouldn't have had another training session with them prior to the tour either.

When you have people on this forum calling him TGC(The Great Cheika), he is been set up for failure, Australians love nothing more then to chop down someone put on a pedestal.

I suspect that many use TGC because it is easier to remember how to spell than Cheika.

Their are plenty on here who can't remember that they're is a difference between there, they're, and their. HTF do you expect them to remember how to spell Cheika correctly?

you are probably too inexperienced to understand the difference between career ratings, long-term form and recent form . and hence my views on the France v Wallabies game, if it is to that that you refer.

my point about the France game is that the form book may need rewriting after the November games. for example, England's recent form is very poor, but not such as to affect its career rating. South Africa's recent form is excellent but not good and long enough to affect its career rating. Australia's career rating has been consistently on the down for quite a while now; however, its recent form (which is poor) may take a dramatic upturn if it beats Ireland and/or England and the Frogs knock over a big team soon.

I am just going on what you have said, and unfortunately for you Argentina have blown massive holes in your arguments about the France game. The France game was just as nearly everyone said: a sloppy, error ridden Wallabies strangled by aggressive French defence. On both of those performances from last week, neither team would get close to the semis of the WC.

Still side with troll.

Anyway, enough with that.

Have just finished watching (sorry mr doug, I was out early baling hay )..hardly disastrous, the thing that cost us the game was the poor start, although we came back well from that..why is it that we can't score points in the second half?? Feel free to correct me but I think that has been a common theme since Cape Town?

I'll need to watch it again to offer any meaningful critique but the things that jumped out at me are we are missing either of our mongrel 6's and our inability to finish off..and that mccalman had a blinder

Think holding up up discipline and morale will be first true test of cheika. You lot had very high expectations of Nh walkover. Easier to coach megastars as Hansen shows. Harder when you haven't got quality or depth everywhere

Thought we were gone at 17 - 0 down.

The Wallabies showed a lot to fight back and even take the lead 20 - 17, although with help from a shocker from the TMO.

Foley showed what he brings in that first half - not the best destributor or tactical kicker or most creative player, but give him a sniff and he will beat a man with footwork and acceleration and find his support. With some space created from a few good returns and Phipps, he made the most of it.

Cooper is a bit of a contrast, a lot more variation that looks more threatening and a tactical kicking game, but a bit riskier brand of rugby. Think it could be horses for courses at times, but at least Cooper's return is looking pretty heartening as to heading to where he was on the last EOYT.

I am pretty happy with McCalman this Test season, if Palu struggles to get back I think he is out 8 going forward.

I am unsure on our defensive system. The tries in the first were scored from a good kick and intercept, although they caused a few problems at times. What I don't like is hiding the 10 on the wing. It works in Super Rugby, but at Test level they are getting exposed under the high ball when competing against wingers and fullbacks, hell Foley even got out jumped by a 13. Would like to see wingers there instead and 10s more sweeping like other teams.

Don't want to talk about Beale too much, but the bench backs were unbalanced, and we needed Horne in the end. An injury to the worst person, Kuridrani, made life really hard, particularly as Beale starting coming into first receiver a lot and Foley just completely disappeared from the game. Losing what has been arguably our best back and then getting stuck with too many playmakers trying to get into first receiver saw our structure disappear. Cooper arrested that a little, as he seemed a little more dominant in stepping into first receiver.

Possibly 5th in a weeks time?
