Have heard that QLD 20s halfback Isaak Fines has been given the call up to fly to Italy. Has one of the inside backs picked up an injury?

Strange that a Queenslander is getting the call-up for an injury cover position.

Don't understand why people are so harsh on Tuttle. I get it that the NSW nine wasn't picked, but Tuttle is very good - and will be a good super rugby player.

Rest assured if the coaching staff was predominantly NSW based,and a NSW player was called up.
The exact same comments would be made,just from different posters.

Certainly they would, and they'd be no less ridiculous. There's enough of this crap surrounding top level selections, surely we don't need to drag the u20s through the mud aswell.

A few is a little bit of an understatement. Burgess, Genia, McKibbon and White all gone for sure. Matt Lucas is off overseas when he could have potentially been a good option. And there's a small rumour about Mattheson being released from the Force that I don't buy, but has to be considered.

It would be a fairly tough gig to get up to speed with all the patterns and structures that the team have developed and perfected over their time together in preparation for the Oceania Tournament, training camps and the Australian Barbarians game, particularly for a #9.

I see both Tuttle and Nucifora named in the 23. Is Fines actually actually enroute to Italy?

Sounds like they may be in the market for a Centre/Wing for Quick (if he is injured) and maybe another loose forward if Fakaosilea is crook.

Fainga'a starting is not a "change". He started as #2 against Italy.

Australia U20s aims to keep destiny in own hands

The Australian U20s side to face South Africa at the World Rugby U20 Championship has been named with the young Aussies aiming to top Pool B and ensure a semi-final berth with a win against South Africa on Thursday morning.

Australia is currently second to South Africa in Pool B on points difference, despite both sides securing two bonus point wins.

The winner of each of the three pools automatically qualifies for the semi-finals with the next highest place team earning the final position in the top four.

Australian U20s Head Coach Adrian Thompson said:

“South Africa will represent our biggest challenge to date at the World Championships and we are looking forward to the clash.

“This match is crucial for us in terms of making the semi-finals and although we have had strong periods in our two matches to date, we know we will need to come up with a committed 80 minute performance to beat South Africa.”

The match kicks off at 4.30am AEST and will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS 2.

Very impressed by the rise of Tuipoloutu who was initially not getting any game time in u20's before the JRWC started. Now he seems to be the preferred 13, despite him playing almost his entire career at 12.

Selections are going to how we thought they would after the team for Italy was picked—play their best team in all the pool matches and roll the dice to make the finals.

This was the NSW U20 strategy used by Tim Rapp for the Canberra tournament.

Quick had a recurrence of his injury he suffered in Australia, although all the right things were done in rehab and he seemed ready to go.

Tyson Davis replaces him as he did early in the Italy game. Ironically his good mate from Barker and the Rats, Harry Jones, reportedly (in this thread) came back from injury in second grade last week.

The other report in this thread, that Fines had flown over, is not substantiated.

But reports from squirrels in Italy about Lolo F being in a moon boot seem to be confirmed by his absence from two matches.

It is a shame that the excellent Ollie Kamp, who can play in all three backrow positions has not been given a gig in the three games.

Since I believe that Pleash is injured, Kamp is the only available player that hasn't made a matchday squad.

^^^ Harry Jones has not been recorded in Rugby Link on any Rats Team Sheet since Round 6 on 25 April (Rats v Highlanders).

So it is possible that we have 3 of our Squad in Team Rehab:
Pleash, Fakaosilea, and Quick.

Sounds like we need a Wing/Centre and a Pot Plant on the plane for Italy. Can probably cover for a broken Loose Forward with Ollie Kamp.

It was still 35 degrees in Italy Tuesday - last night our time.

Reports from squirrels say we can't appreciate how muggy it is and therefore how slippery the ball - and explains why some of the passes are suddenly sub-standard, though OK when there were areas on the ball not affected.

It's the same for all teams - I thought that some of the handling by England v Wales wasn't that hot.

It will be strange hoping that England wins well over France when it is usually the other way around for me, and i won't be hoping that Ireland beats NZ for a change, but life is strange sometimes.
